Dan,

its almost a "how long's a piece of string?" type of question.

It can be anything from £250 for a complete site for a small client in an uncompetitive market category to £150 per hour for sophisticated clients in competitive market categories. I tend to charge by the project rather than the hour.

In the end you have to decide on your capabilities and what you think those capabilities are worth to potential clients.

If you're in London rates will typically be higher than in the provinces. I'm sure e-consultancy did a survey on UK rates.

Hey Dan,

I too agree with dburdon as you must charge as per the project rather than per hour.

Thats very helpful information, thanks to you all I appreciate it.

Im also trying to establish the average hourly rate figure since im working out a benchmark to work out whether I should concentrate soley on offering SEO to clients or spend all my time pushing my long established & very out of date shop forward. I want to establish which can earn more in a year and then go with that option since im not getting any younger or my mortgage smaller :)

Ive been doing SEO off & on since about 98 but since 2001 only in regard to my own site but always in quite an unstructured & maverick way, just as & when its been needed rather than a dedicated on going program (which is now needed). The information and article links you have provided should help me work out how to stucture SEO work and offer it to potential clients should I choose that option.

Many Thanks

Im also trying to establish the average hourly rate...
A minimum houly rate for SEO, should not be less that 40.00 GBP per hour.

If I work based on an hourly rate, I usually charge between 80.00 - 100.00 GBP per hour.

But in most cases I work with a flat fee based on the size of the project.

I ask the client first how much budget they have for SEO, and then I tell how far I can go.

Thanks for that !

I have been using Web Pos Gold since 98 but havnt upgraded since version 2 and was just about to when i noticed some negative comments about it on google regarding automated queries & programs. I know queries can be manually emulated to overide this but i get the impression google doesnt like people using WPG2. Can anyone shed any light on this ?

I also notice that WPG2 now has some competition in the form of WebCEO & IBP, are there any comparison reviews out there or do you know which of these software titles stands out more than the others in regard to offering the most comprehensive & exhaustive range of features & efficient structuring & management of tasks ?

I use WebCEO Professional. I do not know anything better than that.

Then take a look at the statements in the footer of the above page.

John, you should require more. And next generation SE's may require more than todays.

Kgun my apologies, but I do not understand exactly what you mean. Can you be more specific?

I think your are ahead on the most of us on accessibility, usability etc. That was my point above.

And you are an expert SEO:
SEO (http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=64841).

There is a relation between SEO and accessibility, design and usability that also may be more important in the future (for the next generation of SE's).

That is a nice compliment Kgun. I never thought that I am an expert in any of those areas.

Nice to hear that from someone though. That is motivating for me.

Thanks a lot buddy. :)

P.S. Some time, hope soon, I will consider revising my hourly fee... ;)

1. Definitely on Accesibility, usability and related.

2. The competition is much harder on Webmarketing.

3. Being clever on the combination is outstanding and you should stress that if you get a job for larger German companies that pay in Euro.
