Finally, something has come along that could give Google an actual run for its money.

If the desktop search function of Vista (http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/topnews/wpn-60-20061013VistaSearchTakesonGoogle.html) is able to provide online search results without ever having to open a browser, it would be a major blow to Google as the majority of the consumer public along with most companies will upgrade to Vista.

I think the search world just got a lot more interesting.

IF people decide to use it. Searching through the browser is all people know and getting them to change won't be easy.

Google has to improve its SERP now more than ever, or people will be less willing to open a browser and visit google.

Because Google has expanded into other fields so they have an opportunity to always improve thier products like Google Talk and google desktop so they get to fight another round with windows Vista.

Not sure about that. All windows based PC today have MSN Search as the default when someone opens IE and eventually they switch that over to Google because everyone has been "trained" to use it over the past years.

It is a lot like Fire Fox users. When I buy anew PC one of the first things I do is install FF, never touch IE. Of course that is me and not the average internet user.

Of course I understand what you are saying. Now MSN search is even easier for average Joe's to reach and use, but one you go Google most don't go back.
