I know there have been loads of posts everywhere about static versus dynamic IP but this is not what my question is about..

I am hosting a couple of my sites on a shared hosting machine, now when I go to do a whois information on the site I get the following information:

Reverse IP: 516 other sites hosted on this server

If I apply for a fixed IP address for my website, or a fixed IP to share amongst 3 of them will this make whois / search engines think something like

2 other sites hosted on this server
?

Does it help for search engine optimization? Are there any main advantages for this?

Thanks

I'm pretty new to this SEO stuff, but I don't think spiders care at all about the DNS or if your site is on a shared server. All a spider should look at is the content on your page.

It would be more normal to have different IP addresses for your sites (rather than shared amongst your sites).

The relevance of IP addresses is mainly that links from the same Class C group (x.x.x.201, x.x.x.202, etc.) will be downgraded, as they could have come from more of your own sites.

If you are planning to cross link between sites, which is rather black hat, then you would need to have the domains on totally different servers, and (some say...) have the domain owner with a different name.

...which begs the question - why are you worrying about it?
