I'm a little late in posting this one...must have overlooked it late Friday.

A bunch of rallies were staged all over the country in support of Net Neutrality, and four more senators joined up...the count is now 26 in favor, 14 against, 4 waffling, and 56 unknown or undecided.

This is huge momentum for that side of the debate. Supporters dropped off thousands of petitions everywhere and changed the minds of a few uncommitted. Just before the August recess, the ending of which last week was the impetus for the rallies, Sen. Ted Stevens tried to stage an absentee session as opponents took off for the holiday. If he'd gotten enough cronies in on it, he could have ended the cloture delaying his telecom bill until it had provisions for NN. He was busted.

He's a sneaky one, that Stevens, just last week Mr. Tubes was outed by bloggers as trying to anonymously put a hold on a bill that would government spending more transparent.

He's got lots to hide, I think. It's sad too that an old crooked geezer like him is in charge rewriting telecom legislation for the 21st Century. If left to his own devices telecoms and cable companies would own us all.

You really are behind--

FBI in Anchorage re Veco, and a Dem outed as Stevens' Accomplice (http://kickasswebdesign.com/wordpress/2006/09/anchorage-fbi-shakeup-in-legislative-offices-stevens-son-implicated/).

I understand that Ted Stevens is not up for Re-Election this November, but is instead going to retire, which I'm sure comes as a great relief to intelligent Alaskans. One has to wonder if his infamous Tubes contributed to that decision, between the hoopla over the Bridge to Nowhere, the furor over Net Neutrality (which I'm sure he didn't expect) and now these items. Trent Lott's quote in the Chicago Tribune article does say what I'm sure a lot of the old guard are thinking.
