I changed all the names of the html files on my site so they would sound alot more relevant, but I then realized that links on the search engines would come up as 401 errors and page didn't exist because I changed the name of the file and deleted the old ones.

What I did was change www.mysite.com/fishboats.html to www.mysite.com/fishing-boats.html.

Both pages had the same content and everything, I just wanted to make the name of the file sound more relevant. So what kind of redirect should I make so the old file names indexed on the search engine link to my new file name?

Thank You,
Ryan

Check here: http://www.webconfs.com/how-to-redirect-a-webpage.php

I would go for the last option, if your server supports .htaccess.

It also seems beneficial to use "-" between words in a url, results in better indexing of your keywords.

I like to use them in domains also.
