View Full Version : Google Page Cache Limited to 100 Pages?

I noticed Google has 100 Pages of my site in it's cache, after 3yrs of being constantly being crawled i thought this number should of been much higher (Just on our forums we have over 3,000 pages).

Anyway i thought it was a weird number to get stuck on so checked out some competitors and saw they all had exactly 100 pages chached too.

This got me thinking on wether i should set up googles permissions so it can not enter the more 'off-topic' areas of my site and restrict it to the parts which are better keyworded and heavily competative as i noticed alot of what was listed was irrelevant to what i want listed and held no value.

I.E. I found lots of forum junk in the areas none related to 'music production' which is a very competative keyword i am trying to push hard and which for example in our 'music production tutorial' section are naturaly heavily used within our tutorials.

Hence the question:

Does google actualy cache more than 100 pages and just restricts the search to the last 100 pages crawled (or something similiar when searching pages from a specific site) and there is actualy alot more than 100 pages listed in google if searching for a specific term (hence i would not have to restrict it from accessing the more uninteresting and none important keyworded sections).

BTW we are not a commercial site, just a hobby site ran with volounteer staff for helping people get into music production with tutorials, help & advice... along with a couple of off-topic sections just to keep a community spirit going when the more informative sections are lacking in new original content to keep the place ticking over and people to keep returning to us.

Thanks for any help in advance upon this situation.

I am so bad at explaining things it is unbelievable.

I'll try again more simply:

I am in two minds wether to block the off-topic sections from search engine bots/crawlers (especialy google with only 100 page cache...if that is the case)so that more important pages get indexed which are more keyword rich and specific to our site.... i want to know wether this is a good idea or would make none or little difference (or maybe even harm our rankings).

If anyone has any knowledge about this specific question then please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Why do you care how many pages Google has cached from your website?

Why do you care how many pages Google has cached from your website?

Sorry i thought i had made myself clear.

I'll try again.

If Googles maximum cache per site is 100 pages does this limit the search to only those 100 pages cached by Google?

If so, is it best for me to block Google from caching the less relevant pages so the 100 pages in its cache are the pages which hold the most relevant targeted keywords i am trying top push?

K, I hope you can understand me now?

I know i am crap at explaining things, but i thought you would of got the general idea behind the question.

Seems you where not the only one though who did not get what i exactly meant due to the lack of any response of a constructive nature.

Even if Google limited the number of pages that it caches from a website to 100, that in no way reflects how many pages Google will index and rank. So why worry about the cache if it doesn't effect your rankings and traffic?

Also I would always allow Google to cache my website. Not doing so could be construed as a possible cloaker/spammer.

Thank you, that was the answer to the question i was after, shame you could not of seen that from the outset and have also still, yet again, had to reply in a bad manner.

Here was me thinking this site was professional too in its mannerisms until this thread.

Anyway thank you for your help, at the end of the day you still sorted me out, which i appreciate.

I see nothing unprofessional or remotely unpleasant about Incredible's responses ... your question was also quite reasonable.
