Hi Hunter Vaughan,

I have this blog hosted on my website:

http://www.pokerallstar.com/poker-articles/index.html

It took three months for Google to start displaying it in its serps. For what I know the ranked pages on your website would pass ranking to your blog if you have a good internal link structure, so I imagine that having the blog in your site has an advantage in terms of SEO, plus the other advantages of having a blog.

You can have your blog go through blogger and have it redirected to your site. This gives the advantages that blogger offers plus have the blog with your URL. I find this very convenient because you can post via Blog This on the Google Toolbar.

You can see an example of this at:

Personally, I'd always want a blog hosted on my own domain. That way, if I decide I want to change blogging software at some point down the road I can. I hate being stuck with anything.

Blogger can do FTP or SFTP (preferred) to transfer blog entries to your own server. We set up a subdomain (blogs.toolbarn.com) to host everything we write, and we're currently using blogger so we didn't have to install any software.

From an SEO standpoint, by giving a footer link from every page on our site to our blogs (natural within the same domain, not natural to another domain) we've managed to rank quickly on Google for just about anything we write about. I'd recommend hosting on your own domain for that reason.

Brian.
