Ways to check for link popularity

I would appreciate some advice on which are the best ways to check for link popularity on the different Search Engines?

I have used some online tools, but they all give me different results.

Also commands like: link:domain name
linkdomain:domain name
link:www....com
link:http://www....com

And againg I get different results.

They do vary quite a bit regardless of how you check.

This website www.linkpopularity.com will give you all three, msn, yahoo and google links at once though.
