Hi pro's...

I have a question.

I've got a host who has been down off and on for three days now. It's incredibly frustrating, but you know that.

I have advertisers, auctions up that's images are hosted on my site, not to mention I resell hosting space to clients.

SO... Although I know I should change hosts, this will be the third time I have done it. I want to avoid hopping from host to host.

Is it possible for me to get a second host and use their dns as my secondary dns for these sites?

Anxiously awaiting your responses!

I thought we were going to get a "Hosting Forum". I don't know what the status is.

It is badly need - Has become a very complex topic!

Guys, in the absence of such a forum, E-commerce is probably the best category for this topic. So I have moved it accordingly.

Hi dewachen,

No unfortunately, you couldn't just add new nameservers from another host. It would create a dns conflict.

Why did you leave the other hosts?

Sometimes it is the network that gets clogged or goes down, but you're on the burst network which is up. So, It's definitely a server problem.

Has your host contacted you ??

dewachen,

I went through the same exact issues a couple years ago - Lost a month's time, not to mention angry clients.Virtual Hosting has it's drawbacks.

If your and your clients income depends on it, there are more expensive hosting solutions guaranteeing 100% uptime such as monitored dedicated servers and colocation.

Depending on needs you might review the different plans on the top 30 hosting companies I have listed here:
http://www.mountaineagleweb.com/Resources/resources5.htm#Hosting

Any of the top Hosting companies would be glad to help you with specific requirements, in making plan recommendations.

Have you spoken with your Hosting Provider and ascertained as to what the core problem is, and if it will really be resolved soon?

Tip - Many will credit hosting time against their down time problems.

I have been with Hostway for over 4 years. We now resell their services to some clients. Been extremely happy with them.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all of your responses.

My host was down 4 days last week and again today. No contact with them, they don't answer help requests efficiently. When I finally hear from them, it is to be told that the "problem is solved" -- which is evident to me already because my sites are up again. Frustrating!

We're talking 8-12 hour stretches of downtime. Anyway, I had hoped the problem would go away - but obviously I need to deal with it.

Cyanide -- Is FX your company? I'm looking at the reseller plan there and it seems reasonably priced. How reliable is the service?

Thanks --

Lori
