I cannot say enough good things about DreamweaverMX, it has built in code validation that is bang on (as far as I can tell) with W3C. I look forward to upgrade to 2004.
Are you upgrading? Or looking to by a new editor?
If the first, I can't give specific input about MX vs MX2004.

To make comments we would require a little more background.

1. Do you use a mac or pc.

2. Have you owned a previous version? if so which one.

3. Do you use CSS a lot or a lot less.

4. Do you use server side scripting, if so which one.

I would highly recommend Dreamweaver MX, if you're beggining you will experience a bit of a learning curve, but Dreamweaver's powerful features will prove extremelly useful as you learn how to fully utilize them.

I have been thru 3, 4 and upgraded to MX-Suite, Not to 2004 yet, initially heard that there was not enough difference to turn around and upgrade so fast. Have they started enhancing CSS tools in MX04?

I currently use this product, been using Dreamweaver since I bought the Version 2 package, so thats been some time now..

What I have noticed, and I don't know what the deal is with it, was wondering if anyone else has this experience too....

I was working in it today, and was working with the CSS features, and the program closed on me <snap> just like that. No warning, no error, no anything, just up and dissapeared. When I loaded it back up again, no changes had been saved and I had to re-do everything from the last save. This happened to me today like 4 times. I don't know if it is a bug, or something with my version or what, but thats the only thing I have noticed so far that I have a problem with.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I also have Flash MX2004, I missed the MX itself and am going from Flash 5 to MX2004 and having a very hard time adjusting to the new layouts and operations of the software. I am finding it difficult to do simple tasks, like setting the transparency of a symbol in the new version compared to 5. So I think I may need to take a class or something to get up to speed on FlashMX2004, because it's all pretty much greek to me now, even though I can use 5 pretty good.

*Sigh* the pros and cons of upgrades.. ain't technology grand!

DMX 04 should be a good buy.

The reasons I asked the questions are as follows

1. Do you use a mac or pc.
Mac OS Version of the software is very buggy and there have been a lot of complains from Mac users. PC Version is good, and I have been using it since its release without any problems

2. Have you owned a previous version? if so which one.

If you own DW4 and you are getiing into application development or CSS, DMX 04 is a good choice. CSS support is greatly improved.

If you have DMX already your choice to upgrade would depend on how important CSS Support is to you. Except better PHP support none of the other server models have been improved in DMX 04 since DMX

3. Do you use CSS a lot or a lot less.

See 2.

4. Do you use server side scripting, if so which one

See 2.

I cannot reccomend DW04 more... I went out and bought Studio MX 04 because I love it so much.
One very important note: FRONTPAGE IS THE WORST EDITING PROGRAM YOU COULD POSSIBLY BUY, SO DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GETTING IT!!! :)
I switched from frontpage to DW and WOW there were so many things Frontpage didn't do right...
Hope this helps! :)

Something like; nonstandard code - special server requirements and validation issues?

LOL - I hiked the same road!

Better watch out for those implanted code problems when you copy from "Word" documents too!
