Exciting news from the outer frontiers of web development: FACE was released to the world and as far as I can see this is a real winner. Check this out:

"Have you ever had a client (or yourself) wanting to add life to the website, but the idea of using animated GIFs or Flash gets you shaking your head? Are you longing for rich, powerful interactivity on the Web platform? Then this is just for you!

FACE was made to enhance standards-compliant pages without sacrificing important aspects such as accessibility, scalability and flexibility. In fact, FACE truly opens the doors for you in terms of web design freedom. While we advise you to use it for subtle enhancements, you're free to use FACE in as flashy ways as you can come up with.

The primary reason FACE was developed was to put an end to the static Web, once and for all. When used subtly, it can turn a decent site into a fantastic site. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

Sounds almost too good to be true. So lets try it:

Have fun!

It'll never fly. Not because it's a bad idea, but because it's code-based.

Either that, or it will get overused and we'll end up with the next generation: standards-compliant Hampster Dances.

Hamster Dances ... yeah, probably.

But: Incidentally, I've been asked to do accessible redesigns of two flash websites (I love flash for that ...), and those guys have mostly fade-ins and that stuff, which they seem to like a lot. I don't, but what the heck. So this comes in handy, doesn't it.

I do not say that FACE will be the next www craze. But it might have some impact for those guys doing redesigns ...
