One of my pages on my directory site is not being listed in it's main search phrase, but is listed with Google.
www.pembdirectory.co.uk/accom.html is cached by google but if you search using "accommodation in pembrokeshire", the page is not listed at all. WHY?
I find your page listed at #26 in Google for that term.

I am showing #33 in quotes and #27 without quotes.
Also the plural form of accommodation, I could not find you in the top 100. With quotes however...very interesting....Google only returns four (4) results for the phrase "accommodations in pembrokeshire".
Another interesting thing is that Google does not try to correct you for mis-spelling the word as "accomodations" with one M in the plural form ot the word. But it does for the singular form, accomodation....hmmmm.

Thanks both for that, when I checked last week and run a rank check (AdWeb) - I was not listed at all. I checked my logs this morning and found that googlebot has visited that page in the last 5 days, this explains why I'm there now.
Ronnie - I too have been pondering about the spelling of accommodation - I have listed the different spelling in my meta-tags but have been informed that google ignores these. I am not sure if to include the wrong spelling in the page's content, I always use to spell the word with one 'm' until recently, it seams that I have a better rank under the wrong spelling as less sites are listed. What would be your advise?
HINT
Wordtracker will give you information on how many people search for the mis-spellings too.

My site search service gives me the option of "sound-alike" mathcing which is pretty useful for a site like mine where people are often mispelling the search words. I wonder whether Google has thought of doing this, both to give a more inclusive list of releveant results and to discourage site from optimizing on misspellings.

As long as some engines still use the Meta Tag content, I would not ignore taking advantage of them for this purpose.
I do not like using mispellings in the main content myself. It looks unprofessional and sloppy to me. I am worried more about people reading it and having the same opinion too.
If I did use it though, and yours looks like one of those possible times...perhaps in some area of fine print where it might not be as noticable like those tiny disclaimers. Or in one or two ALT tags. I would not overdo it though and use both variations in the content.

I agree with having correct spelling in main content, my spelling is terrible - so I get most things checked by an english teacher.. :-/
This is important though for a professional feel..
I have thought about ALT tags - mis-spelling that is - I once had a incorrectly spelt word in a copyright notice, I boosted hits to that site by 20% ..
I think, I will carefully palce a few wonrg seplnlig's aornud the stie.. :)
