Here's the scoop. I was reading a book, and came across this:
"The term “Google” comes from the American mathematician Edward Kasner’s nephew. When his nephew was nine, Dr. Kasner asked him to invent a name for the very large number 1 followed by 100 zeros. The nephew came up with “googol,” later sometimes spelled as “google.”"
So, my first inclination was to learn about googol.com.
I immediately did a whois on the name and saw that it was registered back in April of 1995.
I went to compare that date with the date google.com was registered, and, lo and behold, this is what I found:
"Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered
with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net
for detailed information.GOOGLE.COM.SUCKS.FIND.CRACKZ.WITH.SEAR CH.EDITED.COM
GOOGLE.COM.HAS.LESS.FREE.PORN.IN.ITS.SEARCH.ENGINE .THAN.EDIT.COM
GOOGLE.COMTo single out one record, look it up with "xxx", where xxx is one of the
of the records displayed above. If the records are the same, look them up
with "=xxx" to receive a full display for each record.NOTICE: The expiration date displayed in this record is the date the
registrar's sponsorship of the domain name registration in the registry is
currently set to expire. This date does not necessarily reflect the expiration
date of the domain name registrant's agreement with the sponsoring
registrar. Users may consult the sponsoring registrar's Whois database to
view the registrar's reported date of expiration for this registration."
That's worth a laugh if you ask me.
*Note, I edited the domain being promoted, but to see what I saw, take a look at this screenshot...
