website is not opening

Hi friends my friend got a problem with his site when he types the url with out www the site is not opening in his browser ex when when he enters http://sitename.com it opens and when he put http://www.sitename.com it opens where the problem located plz any body tell me what to do inorder to solve the problem.

I dont think his domain has been set up correctly, I would contact the hosting company to check if there's a problem.
