I have my site up in August. I have checked the logs and found that google bots has crawled my site about 20 pages on 18th september. But the site is not yet indexed. How long does it take for google to index once it crawls?

I've seen it take a couple of days for the cache to display in Google's datacenter.
Give it a few days. But don't think just cause you've been crawled, means you can stop getting links. Keep on purchasing/attaining links to your site. The more powerful the link, the more frequent the bots will come. Also, if you put up on RSS feed on your site that is indexable, the crawlers will come daily.
Hope that helps! :)

From my experience, Google takes anywhere from 3-6 months to list a new site and then it will only show up if you have properly optimized your site.

From my experience, Google takes anywhere from 3-6 months....
WebToucan, you seem to be talking about obtaining Google PR, not about indexing... Don't mix up these two things...

If in fact it is errors on your site that are holding up google, you should try joining Google Sitemaps, they will link their indexing process with your account, and will let you know if you are updated on a regular basis, and what pages they couldnt index, or had problems with...
Also, i've noticed that when they crawl my page and index something, it takes about 1-2 days for it to show in results (i have a date the homepage).
As for actually getting indexed for the first time, our new articles take about 2-3 days to show up in google results... in my experience of being indexed by the Google giant, it has taken no more then 2 months from the day i let them know about my site.

Hi all,
Let me tell you one thing for sure. It take Google Just one or maximum two days to get your whole site Index. Does not matter when you started it and submitted to it.
You just know the tricks of Trade.
What you will give me If I broke it out here. :) Do not worry it is free of cost.
First start a blog at www.blogger.com and get atleast one link on that blog. It will put your site on google in a day or two.
Second way to get index is lot better as it index all your site pages within one day in Google. Mind it Only Google. Not In yahoo or so.( I am not sure about other, but Damn sure as I have done it myself.)
You can visit my method at this page. http://nuttymarketer.com/green/google-listing.htm

Keep on purchasing/attaining links to your site.
I don't agree with purchasing / buying links for link popularity, it defeats the whole purpose of link popularity as a way to give vote to a site for its importance, relevancy.
And renting links on a monthly basis is just a waste of hard earned money, which if invested properly into SEO, content writing, designing, or PPC, can yield long term and better results.
One should get incoming links or exchange link with related sites, in the same industry or service, business or city.
