how odd is google, I was just checking my rankings for 1975 Chevrolet parts and I notice that I have two sites listed in the top ten - the one google has given priority is A 'Reliant parts page' and has no more than links to chevrolet parts pages - the other is a 1975 Chevrolet page.
as listed below ranking 6 and 9 . . .
Has google started to ignore page titles? I could show a dozen such silly rankings - the Used AEC RELIANT parts served no purpose on a 1975 chev parts results page - other than to provide a link to a page that google ranks lower. .
I tend to create pages for my users rather than google, but what does google 'see'on my Reliant parts page other than a link ?

The SILLY part about it is that I was going to delete the Reliant page because the last entry is now outdated - . . and I find myself tempted to leave this useless page existing! for no user purpose... I think Google can be a very bad influence on me. I intended to mix the reliant parts with some other less used parts pages - Now I have to think about it! - Yes I will move it, but a little more reluctantly. . .

Hi Tubby;

for some reason google sees no inbound links to your page at restored-classic.com/chevy/ and has awarded it a PR0 as a result. You might try resubmitting that page to Google.

On the other hand your reliant parts page has a PR of 3 and has 1975 Chevrolet links on it, so balancing all these factors it ranks the reliant parts page higher than the Chevrolet page.

The same page is also ranking #1 for used aec parts.

Thanks Mel, I am starting to loose faith in google, I think for a while I started to ignore what I thought my users needed, and started to think 'google'. I think the writing is on the wall with the way google is going and I do not think I will be going with them . . I think if google had their way, to sell 'item 8978' on the net one should simply upload a web page and buy the adwords 'item 8978' from google until it is sold . .

their direction will kill, design, creativity, and the little user . . They can only go downhill from here...

But thanks Mel for letting me 'see' how google viewed the pages. I did get an email suggesting that I should consider not having the words 'Chevrolet' and '1965'so many times on the page . . but that made no sense ??

As much as I understand the frustration that many people are feeling with their Google results these days, I don't see them going downhill - quite the contrary, unless possibly Microsft does something spectacular and buries them. As for "I'm not going with them", as long as they are accounting for as high a share of the search market as they are, how can you NOT go with them?

Google may be confusing at times and they are certainly frustrating for many but for now Google is still the main man and your websites better acknowledge that if you want to thrive...

Minstrel, Your right of course - thats because you think before you speak... I on the other hand have a different personality. I speak first - then after I have said whatever, I listen to what I have said and decide wether I agree with it.

I am currently altering my stance 'not going with them' now means something less drastic.

But Mel pointed out there were no links to the page in question - so I find myself creating links on several sites . . (not for google of course - for ease of navigation for my users) You will find Minstrel, that I often speak without thought. . I should like you to know that I reflect on what I say, as well as what everyone else says.

I was born with a thick skin, an arrogant streak, and extreme pig headedness, (but mostly comfortable paddling way out of my depth). Most of the contributors on this site have qualities I admire because I lack them .. You sound very Solid.

But I still do not like the way google is headed - even though nothing they have done so far has effected my traffic . . I just see them killing the little man in the long term. (but I was never over googlized)

HI Tubby:

There is some sense to not having so many occurances of the words 1975 chevrolet parts as some think that google might be considering some cutoff point as too many and downgrading the rankings for that page.

That could be the case for your 1975 chevrolet parts page as it has the same number of those words in the navigation and has more on the page, but this is a very gray area, and I would not like to speculate further.

Hi again Mel. I just spent the afternoon placing links to all the pages from 1928 to 1985. from a page with a 4 rating. (I hated every second of it) - but it could make the pages easier to find. so I suppose google could be half right on this one, although my users have had no problems finding it.

I am pleased the multiple use of 1965 and Chevrolet is a grey area . . because the only way I could change that would be to make it 1 965 and C hevrolet.
and I am fairly sure that is too silly for me to live with.

I appreciate your time and effort.

But the point still is 'How stupid'
I have two pages, one with no content, one with good content . . Google directs visitors to the one with no content. So any SEO can simply direct traffic away from oppositions site by re-aranging links. With no regard to content.

I have just done it, I just 'Outbidded'(with a link) my own web page at no 7. now I sit back and find out if google accepts the bid. No content change. You cannot tell me this is assisting the person who is searching for content. Its STUPID! It falsify's results, thats the reason the result was wrong in the first place.
