Hi! A bunch of pratners and I are serious discussing starting two new online ventures. One is a new affiliate network like CJ, etc. While we know there is tough competition, we also know that there is always room for innovatibe and customer minded companies.

So my question for you guys is:
1. What makes a good affiliate network?
2. What is lacking from the bigger guys?
3. What could easily be fixed by them but is ignored?
2. What would make you join a new network as a merchant or an affiliate?

And any other helpful comments you may have from either a merchant or affiliate perspective.

Thanks in advance,
profezor

Hi profezor,
The way my limited understanding of affilliate networks work is; the bigger the better. The more merchants the better. The more publishers the better. The only real problem with all the successful and non-successfull affiliate networks are the huge costs integration into the merchants website. I haven't seen anyone truely design an easy integration system yet. The day that happens that affilliate network will recieve more merchants, therefore more publishers, therefore more merchants...You get my idea. I never understood why they couldn't setup a simple ipn system with a single image tag.

The other aspect of why people pick a particular affilliate network for both publishers and merchants is the stat system. CJ kind of takes the cake on this one. CJ did a very good job of creating useful easy to read, and most of all thorough stats.

I stopped using CJ when I was unable to get paid in Australia. . The earnings I had were eventually cancelled and my membership was deemed inactive.
I was simply unable to comply with their requirements for payments - and hundreds of other had the same problem.

Pay your affiliates - that is a good policy. .
