Hi,

I'm hoping for some marketing advice. And would like to get an idea of what people think of some names.

I am thinking of setting up a business that will initially be focused on the web industry and then in the long term broaden its reach to the Digital industry in general.

I am thinking of setting up a web development/design, student outsourcing and recruitment business.

The domain name that I possess is fundamentalist.com. Controversial ring to it, I know. I bought it many years ago thinking that it was a memorable domain and thought that it could one day be used to brand a product or service (wasn’t sure what at the time). I have been contacted in the past by businesses interested in buying the domain name (for example an ISP service that was just starting up). But I have kept hold of it with the intention of using it one day.

I have now come up with a use that I think might well work.

I am thinking of using the domain to be the home of Digital Fundamentalist - a web solutions/outsourcing/recruitment site.

Specialised areas of the business would be named incorporating the fundamentalist part of the name: e.g. Accessibility Fundamentalist (subdomain: accesibility.fundamentalist.com), Usability Fundamentalist (usability.fundamentalist.com), SEO Fundamentalist (seo.fundamenatlist.com) etc

In this way I would like to use the word Fundamentalist not only as a memorable name, but also trying to incorporate the idea of an enthusiast (i.e. SEO Fundamentalist is the equivalent of SEO Enthusiast). I would also like to use the word to reflect the business's adherence to fundamental principles of good practice, such as W3C accessibility standards, designing for the user and white hat SEO development.

I have sought the opinions of a few people. The reaction to the naming strategy seems to be like people's reaction to Marmite - they either love it or hate it. Some people say it could be used to brand services in a clever way, while others due to the current political climate think I should stay clear of using a word that does have controversial connotations to it.

I'd like to find out what people here think of it. Should I go for it? Or scrap it? Any other advice/ recommendations that you would give?

Thanks and Regards,

DigiFundi

TBO, I don't think a new web development/design, student outsourcing and recruitment business will fare well... There are hundreds of thousands of sites that offer mostly the same thing. You need to be sure you have a niche so you can maximize your potential. I know that sounds so cliche, but think about it. I think the market and the net will not be nice to you if you induge in this venture.

Seems like a major undertaking in a flooded market where most already have forums and sites locked into their favorites to cover that need.

I think in time vs money, youd be better served to sell the domain to a "fundamentalist .org" that may better use its' catchy ring in a niche market.

But perhaps you have the resources and long term time to make that type of market site work as well.
