Being a buff of all things concerning D&D and especially enjoying "The Lord of The Rings" a friend sent me this via email. The author is unknown to me.

I hope you all enjoy.

Recently one of my friends, a computer wizard, paid me a visit. I mentioned that I had recently installed Windows on my PC, told him how happy I was with this operating system and showed him the Windows CD. To my astonishment and distress, he threw it into my micro-wave oven and turned it on.
I was upset because the CD had become precious to me, but he said "Do not worry, it is unharmed." After a few minutes he took the CD out, gave it to me and said "Take a close look at it."
To my surprise the CD was quite cold and it seemed to have become thicker and heavier than before. At first I could not see anything, but on the inner edge of the central hole I saw an inscription, in lines finer than anything I have ever seen before. The inscription shone piercingly bright, and yet remote, as if out of a great depth.

"I cannot read the fiery letters," I said. "No," he said, "but I can. The letters are Hex, of an ancient mode, but the language is that of Microsoft, which I shall not utter here. But in common English this is what it says"
"One OS to rule them all, One OS to find them
One OS to bring them all and in the darkness bind them."

That is funny! I wonder how many people will actually try that now? :)

I have tried it. Putting a CD in the microwave makes a really cool fireworks show. Before anyone tries it just two things you should know.

1. You can't use the CDs again. At least not how they were intended to be used.

2. Its not my fault if you burn your house down. You should know better than to put a CD in the microwave. Even though it is really fun:)

But what would an AOL disc say ?

(NB in the UK AOL discs arrive through the post box more frequently than bills)

Our physics teacher has great fun putting things in the microwave, we just ask for something so go in the microwave and he will put it in its great fun. we have not had any major fires yet but the microwave is a bit intermittent!! i also recomend light bulds and foil they can be great fun!

Not sure what this has to do with computers and interent but oh well its all in the name of fun

Probably something like "You've got mail..." -- just before it fills your microwave with endless amounts of crap that is incompatible with all the other food you put into the microwave.

It would make me happy if every one put their WINDOWS CD's in the microwave. It would make the internet faster, as all active viruses, worms etc are Windows based.
Dedicated Linux User.

Ahhh, the misconception that "If it's not Windows, it must be secure." You are correct in saying that Windows has slowed down the internet since there is a good chance that most of the users that create the traffic that slows down the internet would not be on it today if it weren't for Windows. And even if they were, teletype text is a lot less of a burden to bandwidth than graphics.

I guess I would be considered a dedicated Windows user...

I tried it.
The CD is ok, but the microwave now needs an overpriced upgrade.
It also takes 40 minutes to heat up a bowl of soup

This all sounds like an April Fool prank to me.

Kingsley...
uh, Kingsley......

I guess he's gone. They should have put a warning message on the CD right next to the "Do not eat" warning. I'm going to sue. Mental distress and all...

From the dark depths of the mysterious forum the One has been brought to light.

It is nice to see this has been discovered and in the vein of fun here is another "light" topic. http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=17011

Har! actually, the "paraphrase" of Tolkein is disturbingly apropos...it's sort of causes one to laugh with that troubled uncertain tone more commonly used when walking past a graveyard late at night.

I tried it too...
On my first attempt, I set the time for 5:00 minutes.
I received a message on my LED instructing me that I entered the wrong serial number.
Surprisingly enough I was presented with a much finer display in which to re-enter (25 spaces), after setting the number of centuries, decades, years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds and Milli-second, I pressed start.
Looked like things were going fine, the Disc started rotating at an amazing speed, actually levitating off the ceramic plate and producing a wonderful laser light show as the 25 watt microwave light bulb refracted off the holographic backing on the Win 2000 Pro Disc.
I thought I was beginning to see a three dimensional Windows start-up screen, when everything went Tidy Bowl Blue (how suitable), and these god awful fonts splattered against the microwave window.
"System Dump 68%" was all it said, just before everything went black.
When I was sure everything was safe, I opened the micro-wave door, and all the money from my wallet was sucked into the black hole that now resided within.
The holographic image had also been replaced with a scorched image of a fruit and inscribed words "Made by Apple"
Hmmmm...
