View Full Version : MSN bug shows precursor to future drops in rankings

I have been watching MSN over the last month or so and have found quite a few bugs:

Same page being listed more than once, i.e. page 1 and page 2 or 3.

Pages about to be dropped due to an algo change NOT show a cached version. I first noticed this last week when one of my pages ranked #2 for the word "gift". Oddly enough when I checked MSN's cached version I recieved the "Requested document could not be found." When I went to page 3 the same page was listed again. Click the cache and the page pulls up. I double checked this 20 keywords or so, some had indented listings. I can tell you without a doubt every page which would not pull up in cache was dropped the day before yesterday. The pages where the cache did pull up the rankings remained.

In the end the ranking is based on cached version as MSN claims. This would make sense why the cache is not showing since the cache for ranking is not really ranking the page there and hence the message.

I have seen it yet again this week another site. The funny part is the same page was ranked both on page 1 and page 2. The page 1 listing had no cache but page 2 did. At the end of the day the page 1 listing was gone.

Lets hope it does'nt get any worse.

Only MSN People know what they are upto these days.

With Google on their minds, it must be difficult for them to think straight. Out of the box.

Maybe they are plotting to wipe the floor with Google, lol.

Quick... someone lock this thread and pull the blanket over it. Once MSN learns what DMC_34 knows... oh, I fear for his safety.

Those men in that car across the street - just keep your distance.

Nice research. I just came across one for my site where a page 3 listing didn't have a cache, but a page 1 listing did. That's a pretty cool trick. ;-)
