I was impressed a while ago by this page
http://www.howtofoldashirt.net/ and the amount of traffic that a simple idea like this can bring in.
I tried to re-create something similar on my website
http://www.annamariavolpi.com/how_to_eat_spaghetti.html
My page is far from being as clean as the japanese one, (and I would like a comment on my page), but my main question is: What is the best way to promote a funny single page? Articles, nesgroups, press-release, etc ?
Many thanks in advance.
Pietro
Sorry but how do you know the ammount of trafic this page gets. Indeed, it has a good PR, but the traffic ??
Thanks,
Radu

Such pages mostly get traffic from word of mouth. Only then do people voluntarily add the links to their sites, blogs, forums, etc.
I used to have a small page back in 1999, it was a single page hosted on a "free host" with a small Flash on it.
This might sound unbelievable, but I have no ways of proving it:
I hit my first 1,000,000 unique hits in 2 months with absolutely NO advertising. I was much younger then, thus I did not use the potential at all.

I think you are right regarding word of mouth. In fact I found this page on a blog a couple of months ago. I remember also reading about the numbers, I don't remember now: Judging by Alexa they may have 1500 to 2000 visitors/day.
I will try to disseminate my page around and see what happens.
Thank you for the hint.

Seems like how to fold a shirt is doing rather well on Alexa:
http://www.alexa.com/site/site_stats/signup?range=1y&style=c&submitted=true&mode=graph&site_url=howtofoldashirt.net
If my eyes don't deceive me it looks like 70k hits a day.

Some ideas:
1. Join several social bookmarking groups like http://del.icio.us and post site under several different tags at each (eg: funny; spaghetti; food; pasta; cooking; etc.).
2. Try to get a third party to submit the page to www.boingboing.net or other meme-of-the-day type sites, like FARK
3. Know any bloggers? Enlist their help.
These are good guerrilla methods to get word-of-mouth happening.

Every onece in a while you can fall into a well, or find a "bird nest" on the ground!
Here's an existing related thread:

Viral marketing usually happens by "word of mouth or fingertips".
There is just not too many other things you can do to promote a one page Site on-line and expect high serps in a competitive arena. The down side of those shooting stars is they usually have a very short life span.
It MUST be a multimedia experience that commands attention at some extreme.
at some extreme.
at some extreme.
at some extreme.

why so much empty space at the bottom of the page?
