Heads up: Recieved a cashier's check as payment for a custom motorcycle on the 16th of Dec., via airborne express delivery. The check was written on Republic Bank of Florida. Submitted that check to u.s. bank...which advanced an amount on that check and held the remaining balance...stating that check "appeared to be good". On Dec. 19th, was informed by u.s. bank that the check was "no good" and they are demanding repayment of the amt. advanced.
Per fbi website, this activity regarding cashier's checks is a popular scam at the moment. If anyone recieves one as a payment, I have discovered a means to verify the authenticity of that check themself.
Check the web for the homepage of the bank that the check is written on, locate the 800 number for customer service, have them verify the check to you. Evidently, if one is to trust that your bank has varified a cashier's check, then one is risking a very expensive "oops". www.2crowscustomchoppers.com
