Got this from my hosting company about an hour ago. Has anyone else notice that the Internet in general has been bogged lately, mainly this week?

You may experience sporadic problems accessing your e-mail account. Excessive traffic generated by a recent virus attack of the so-called Sober e-mail worm resulted in increased traffic globally. WE WERE NOT INFECTED WITH THE VIRUS, but the resulting increase in e-mail traffic generated by the virus has slowed some functionality for businesses worldwide. Data Centers our working around the clock to improve e-mail performance following this influx of excessive e-mail.

Actually, no. But I personally dont think it is a virus. I have been spamming like hell this last week and a half, and I think I have bogged some DNS Servers down. When one dies, I go to another...
HAHAHAHA!
I have only sent about 50 million emails this week.
Shouldn't be too bad.

Another theory for the overworked server COULD be spiders hitting your site(s) and pulling your data.
This was an issue a couple years ago for me with Altavista reaming us... Coming a few hundred times and a few hundred thousand page views in a week!
This BLEW OUR HOSTING BUDGET OUT OF THE WATER that month.
Needless to say, we blocked the ips of the spiders, and it stopped. After 2 months, we removed the ip ban and had no more problems.

It seems we get every virus infected person as a customer. We've been getting about 3,000 copies of the worm daily for the past few weeks. Thankfully, F-Prot installed on our web server inline with qmail stops them from ever getting to some of our computer illiterate employees, as well as the computer literate ones.
