I'm manic-paranoid about some recent results in MSN's new search.

I have a top ten listing for "britney spears pics" which is awesome, but it seems very odd, though cool, that it is out of over 200 million results!

Here's my question / comment, I guess:

Why so many results? Even at Yahoo! it's only about 3.5 million results (which I'm top 20) and even less at Google.

Finally, I'm paranoid that's there's going to be some big, tragic balancing act later ... what seems to be too good usually is ...

Any thoughts?

Their search results numbers are a joke.

On MSN, we are supposedly #1 out of 255 million for tool parts, but Google only shows us as #1 out of 23 million and Yahoo shows us as #1 out of 19 million.

I can't see that there is any way there could be 232 million pages about tool parts, let alone that many that MSN knows that Google does not. The number is closer to Google if you search for tool and search for parts on Google, then subtract the pages that have both.

this is a more recent issue. This inflated BS number was not liek that when they first went live with beta, nor for weeks afterwards. I now see that too, and am enjoying countless 1/4 billion top 5's.

Unfortunately those are comical total page returned results.

Perhaps a marketing trick to make the index seem larger than googles, by including 90% non-relevent from page 20 on down.

As long as he top 10 pages are fine who would care.

Amazingly enough, when I do a search for "adhd bipolar" (Where I rank #3 of a supposed 232,535,340), and then click "next" to the final page of results (page 25) MSN shows that it is displaying 241-250 of 250 results.

I'm not sure where the initial numbers come from, but I know that the results were relevant all the way up to page 25...

The results are not accurate, neither is the paging system.
