Do webmasters usually receive commission for sales that come in off the internet? Let's say a company has salespeople that receive a commission of the sales they bring in. On the website the e-mail orders are equally divided between all the sales people. Each of the sales people are receiving a percentage of the sales from the website also, although the webmaster that created the site, did SEO work to get it to rank well, etc. does not receive any commission.

Is this standard practice or do webmasters typically receive a portion of the commission or some other incentives off performance of a website?

If the webmaster is the person who is promoting the site (SEO, Running PPC, etc.) then I think that some sort of commission is warranted. If all they did was make and update a website, then no.

Are there any webmasters out there that do receive a commission, if so what percent, or other compensation?

I think most web master will be paid for updating and maintaining the website, this is usually charged at your own rate. If all you did was develop the website I think it would be a cruel thing to try and make money from your client’s success.

It's a business website where the sales people and the webmaster work fulltime for the company. Not a freelance project.

In this case the web master should have a contract where by they are paid for the work he/she does.

That way everyone wins.

I don't think the webmaster should be paid a commission, unless the order is placed directly online. (S)he isn't actually the one doing all of the hustling to make the sale. The salespeople are.

Hell, if I could make a 10% commission on sales from a website, I'd have made at LEAST $5 mill by now.
