View Full Version : display deleted threads

Hi, there are a number of members that are worried about the selection of threads that have been deleted, suggesting some sort of discrimination. I am not one of them. However, I do believe that openess would be the best way to combat any such suggestions, therefore, i propose that deleted threads be displayed in their own forum. Obviously the forum would contain a warning of any inappropriate content and people would not be allowed to reply to the topics, however, doubters would be able to see that the action of mods and admin have (not that I personally need any convincing) been entirely appropriate.
I will be surprised if that happens as some just get deleted and others are quarantined.
Threads are moved to the quarantine forum usually for a MOD to work on when there are several messages that need editing or deleted. Its a "call" if the message is deleted or quarantine. Eg we have had instances in which legal action was threatened, so need to quarantine; other times we simply get a request from a member to delete there post as they, for eg, mentioned a client.... it probably should be quarantined if likely to be controversial down the track.
Messages are only deleted when they break forum rules (there are no consipiracies), sometimes that involves personal attacks on other members - so they are unlikely to availale for members to see.
If members think they have been biased against or edits are one sided, they are welcome to contact Admin/Mike. They are almost always raised n the MOD forum for discussion.
BTW - most posts in the Q forum are really inappropriate mesages re product promotion - ie selling things..... hey break the forum rules.

"Hi, there are a number of members that are worried about the selection of threads that have been deleted,..."
I only count 2 or 3 that are concerned about DMOZ Bashing threads with personal attacks being quaranteened. That's not a quarum!
We will continue to attempt to maintain professional quality at WPW.
Personally, I have only "deleted" Spam and Porn postings.
I have locked a DMOZ Bashing thread with personal attacks against another moderator, which was subsequently "Quaranteened" by a 3rd. Another was "forked" by a 4th.
It's really a very simple "Quality" message a team of Mods are sending here. It's not really very difficult to understand!

No worries guys, I totally side with you on this, I was just trying to think of a way to prove that you mods arent the authoritarians some people like to pretend you are.
Obviously some threads should be completely deleted, but I thought, for instance, the DMOZ thread and that thread where cbp was being unjustly attacked about whether google internally updates pr could be put in a place where people can see them and make their own judgements.
But i take your point, mods are there to make those judgements for the rest of us and help ensure a healthy forum.
Greeneagle, not that number matter, but over the course of my posting here, i have known at least 10 people who have become inactive because they feel the rules/the mods (i believe they can be fairly considered synonymous) are too strict. I am not saying for a second that i agree with them, i was just seeing how their grievances could be aptly addressed and greater openness couldnt be a bad thing in my book.
