Before I do what I'm about to do, which I'm afraid I may regret later, let me say that this is taking A LOT of nerve on my part. You have to promise not to laugh (too hard). If you can't promise that, please do not continue reading. :)

Ok, good. Well, I figured if there's a wayback machine for websites, why not for us WPWers? So, I dug for the most hideous picture I could find of myself in hopes to get to see yours too. Come on now, a good laugh never hurt anyone!

So, prepare yourself...

x

As you can imagine, I was not exactly the most popular girl in school. Actually, I spent most of my school days as the butt of cruel jokes. Good grades and looks like those above? Yeah, go figure. One thing you can't see in the pic above is that the rubberbands on my braces were school colors. I mean really, how much more cool can you get! Anyhow, I thought this would be fun.

Ok, I'm having a little trouble pressing that little submit button down below. Pardon me while I give a little self pep talk. Breathe...ok GO!

Awe c'mon Leisa, I'm sure that your 'inner beauty' shone through then! (as always ;O)
I'm going back to Edmonton to see family tomorrow, I'll see if I can't locate a 'pre braces' shot of myself :-O

Leisa :))
You ARE a brave lass!! And, unfortunately, I cannot reciprocate as one of the things that I left behind when I walked out on my marriage some years back were all photos. Besides, I've already published my own hideousharriet picture and it showed up today. My steenkin' badge for work and my driver's license both require some imagination on the part of the scrutinizer to determine if I'm actually me. I tend to stay away from cameras.

However, painful memories of an awkward youth keep one sensitive to others and far more inclined to reach out and help others. Now, you've both character AND looks :)

You are so kind. Thank you for not leaving me out on that limb all by myself. I was beginning to worry...a lot.

ldyguique - Thank you so much for your reply too. If you walked out on a marriage, I'm sure it was because you weren't happy so you're much better off without the pictures! That's kind of a backwards way of saying you are more important than your belongings. I'm glad you found the strength to leave and judging by your picture you are quite a beautiful woman so you go girl!

OK Leisa,

I am up to the challenge! I will dig through photos this weekend and find something. How far back are we talking? We were all cute as toddlers, not sure I am brave enough to share the teen years. I am not sure I'm brave enough to think about my teen years!

I am looking forward to mikmik sharing his 'pre braces' shot. And janeth was probably just as cute than as she is now... :~)

Leisa,
Good post, this should lead to some funny photos. I don't think yours is that bad, though. Maybe, I'm just seeing that inner beauty that MikMik mentioned, I don't know. Anyway, those braces paid off because you sure have a pretty smile now. ;)

I'll see if I can't find a bad one of myself to post. It'll be hard though, because I've always had these GQ looks! HaHa, yeah right!
Take care,
Dennis

Looking at your current picture, I didn't think you were much over 18 now.

Hey! Well, maybe if you look reeeeeally hard you can find one on a bad hair day, you know, still GQ but not Ultimate GQ. :)

But I can give you my first day at school at 5yrs old.

Per "Minstrel Woo Doggie's" request... there are no Rocky with first fish pics available! As is the case with ldyguique, I left pics with exes in two previous marriages, so the supply is pretty thin! And, the one I was searching for has mysteriously disappeared from the folder with the rest, and I'm sure is subject to pop up about Christmas Day surrounded by some ornate little frame to grace the top of the television or the living room wall for eternity, since I was such a handsome little feller! (Although the better half vehemently denies any knowledge of its whereabouts!)

However, I did manage to dig up a couple for the time machine!

wasn't the third one from the left used for the cover of Peter Frampton Comes Alive?I'm not sure about that.. although I do vaguely recall the cover.. it was round about the time when everyone seemed to be getting perms 1979/80 or thereabouts.. hence the soft flowing locks! You should've seen the faded denim outfit that accompanied them!! LOL!

I guess I stayed under the radar long enough not to get busted with the glasses. When they were gifted to me I had to go into hiding and wait until one day in 1988...Poor guy. There is a certain guilt I carry with me to this day. HA!HA!HA! I almost started believing that, I've gotta stop.

You know, I think I would pay to see that George Harrison look-a-like shot.

This is starting to feel more and more like home... like when my sons ask me if I was scared the first time I saw a horseless carriage or what it was like to eat supper before the invention of fire. As for the photos, they are actually recent photos of stone etchings, if you must know...

One of the things I find fascinating about seeing a series of photos is that, although there are some obvious changes as one ages and is exposed to gravity for an extended period of time, the smile and the eyes and the general expression (read: approach to the outside world) remains surprisingly constant. I've often thought that may be because those features are more reflective of the person's basic temperament, or core personality, or even soul, however you define that...

Looking at many of the pictures here, including but mot limited to those posted by Leisa and Janeth, I see that observation confirmed again...

A fascinating thread you started, Leisa - but are you certain that's cyanide?

(fictional) Trivia about the greatest band ever to walk the face of the planet...

Did you know that when the album cover for Let It Be went to print, the printer's apprentice changed it without the knowledge of the band? He claimed the original image was not of the proper proportions for the cover size. They were none too pleased when they found out but millions had been printed with the modified image and the two most notable influences for the album never received proper credit...until now...

One of the things that impressed me about the "Young Daren" photo is that he seems to be playing at least two, maybe three pieces of music at the same time - impressive multitasking for someone so young and wearing his lucky jammies...

If I could find that passport photo, I'd scan it and post it, but I vaguely recall an ex-girlfriend asking me if she could have it ("women... can't live with 'em, can't stuff 'em in a sack" - Larry of Larry, Darryl, and Darryl) - I always called it my "George Harrison suit", bought in Carnaby Street (Square?) in 1972 (when I was, of course, only 3 but had a generous allowance and a paper route) - however, looking again at the Abbey Road album cover I realize it was misnamed, because it's John Lennon wearing the white suit - I actually still own a pair of those round John Lennon glasses too, and the hair is about the same as mine was in 1972 (a hirsute 3 year old to be sure) but I suck at keyboards... I think George also wore those white bell-bottom suits when performing though...

http://www.psychlinks.ca/misc/abbeyroad.jpg

...as for young George Harrison, I do recall one of him with that Elvis hair but the earliest one I can find now is this - I have no idea what kind of hair that is:

Color pic would be about 1977 - 1978 age 18 -19 yers old. Haircut compliments of Uncle Sam! U.S. Air Force, spent 3 years at Keesler Air Force Base Biloxi, MS. The picture that's missing goes with the other and is a much closer and cleaner shot than the one offered, that one's got to be about '71 - '72 I think.

As for the Wen picture.... I think Menstril Woo Doggie! had that one pegged back there a few posts ago. The resemblance there is as you suggested in this case, uncanny!

Per Minstrel Woo Doggie's comments... as they say, (whoever "they" is, as always referred to in such matters),"The eyes are the windows to the soul."

Well, he was apparently looking at my screen and as I scrolled past my original post I hear from behind me "Oooh, she ugly!!!". Yeah, you should have seen his face when I whipped out the original. You could see the thought process on his face..."um, what, DING!" "Oh, that's you, I'm so sorry, I, I, I..."

it's ironic that the first thing i thought upon looking at minstrel's jam session photo was that it's the spitting image of george harrison cerca the "Meet the Beatles" album.....

Isn't that interesting...I was thinking something too. For real. But I thought Minstrel's jam session photo reminded me of Ricky Nelson in a clip from one of the Ozzie & Harriet shows.

We where at some friends house the other night and my husband and my friends husband had been drinking.

We where looking at some old pictures and

my husband said: who is this

and

my friend said: it is me.

Then

my husband said: you use to be pretty

Then

her husband said: that is the problem she use to be

Then next thing you know there fighting where leaving and as where driving away my husband starts to laugh. He thinks that was the funniest thing ever.

He wants to go back next week.

I'm just waiting for minstrel or ronniethedodger to give enough information to figure something out.

Well I think Minstrel has quite a few clues spread out amongst various threads...I am getting a fairly good idea of his point of origin.

As for me...hmmmm....I am way, way, way older than Minstrel. You would not think so, but I am. I guess I age a little more gracefully, eh? ;-)

But since most people think that I am actually from another planet...a planet that has no meaning of time. Then I guess my age is irrelevant.

I had a freind give me a watch as a gift once...right out of the blue, he just gives it to me. No batteries in it....so I asked him what was up with that....and he said that I never show up when I say I would, so what was the point !!!

yup...and the John Wayne western he did with Dean Martin and Walter Brennan.

I also remember (listen up Janeth...this dog is throwing you a bone) seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. It also had Soupy Sales as a guest...and I think some chimpanzees too.

But I faintly remember John Kennedy's casket being pulled down the streets of Washington in the funeral procession.

My more vivid TV recollections started about the time the NBC Peacock got colored feathers, all the shows touted "In Color", and this line at the beginning of a whole slew of TV shows at that same time "A Quinn Martin Production".

My talent in that area is pretty limited...what you've seen from me is pretty much the extent of what I can do. But it sure is fun!

One of the things that impressed me about the "Young Daren" photo is that he seems to be playing at least two, maybe three pieces of music at the same time - impressive multitasking for someone so young and wearing his lucky jammies...
After all, they are lucky jammies right? I thought I could fly when I had my lucky cape, I mean blankie. His name was George and I would always put him in the freezer. Hmm...I started to erase what I just shared because it makes me look nuts but I'll leave it as proof for what too much Jim Beam will do to a person's "what I should and should not share with the general population" decision making abilities.

as I scrolled past my original post I hear from behind me "Oooh, she ugly!!!". Yeah, you should have seen his face when I whipped out the original. You could see the thought process on his face..."um, what, DING!" "Oh, that's you..."

Um, that would have been our friend. My husband on the other hand was kind enough to, in the nicest way possible, tell me he wouldn't have given me the time of day then but still would have been nice to me. PFFFFT!!!! What was that about flowers again minstrel?

Searching backwards through the post trying to find where anyone last mentioned a song, I realized she was probably in mid-conversation with someone in that other world (Colombia) - I envision her husband or a friend passing by humming along to Barney's "I love you, you love me..." and Janeth, instead of answering, swivels back to her computer and types her response into whatever WPW thread happened to be there at the moment. In the background, Conversant A is saying, "Did you hear what I said?", as Janeth types, "Yes... I heard you... I was just answering you...".

So it goes in sunny climes at this time of year... or maybe it was the Jim Beam or the Tequila... or the chocolate...

Regarding modification of pictures...

I just want to jump in and say that it isn't common practice to modify fellow members' photos. Just remember that what may be funny to you could be offensive to others. In order not to offend an individual it would be smart to get the member's approval before posting a modified picture of them.

Having said that, here is a modified picture of paulhiles. I have obtained his permission to post it so no fair getting offended! Kidding, it's your right, but please know the subject of the picture is ok with it.

The accessories do enable one to make some better decisions. I think the one in the lower right reminds me of Sluggo from that old comic strip called Nancy....while the one in the upper left looks more like someone you would see in that "One Flew..." movie with Jack Nicholson. The one in the lower left looks like some aging rap star from the 70's (before it was vogue and disco was the craze), and finally the one in the upper right looks like a lot like....omg...it is him....Cecil's little buddy Beanie !!!

I remember watching these guys a very long time ago. Reruns though...not the original theatre releases.

Let's see...there is Spanky, Alfalfa, Buckwheat, Darla, Butch, Hymie, Petey (the dog), Froggie, can't remember Jackie Cooper's name, seems to me that Spanky had a younger brother (forgot his name)who hung around with Buckwheat most of the time and the teacher who every kid I knew had a crush on...Miss Crabtree....what a babe !!!

All the boys were in that exclusive club called the He-man Woman's Haters Club...their favorite meal was bread with piles of Grape Jelly oozing out of the sides of the slices...Darla, Butch, and Alfalfa was the notorious love triangle that drove the sex angle of the short films...while Butch knocking the block off of Alfalfa gave us the violence part...hmmmmm...that is about all I can remember.

Take A Letter, Maria by R.b Greaves
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006BNDX.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Last night, as I got home, about a half past ten
There was the woman I thought I knew in the arms of another man.
I kept my cool, I ain't no fool. Let me tell ya what happened then.
I packed some clothes and I walked out ..and I ain't goin' back again.

Chorus
So take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home..gotta start a new life
Oh Take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer..gotta start a new life

You've been many things but most of all a good secretary to me
And it's time like this I feel, you've always been close to me
Was I wrong to work nights, to try to build a good life?
All work, and no play has just cost me a wife

Chorus
So take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home..gotta start a new life
Take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer, gotta have a new life

When a man loves a woman, it's hard to understand
That she would find pleasure in the arms of another man
I never really noticed, how sweet you are to me
It just so happens I'm free tonight, would you like to have dinner with me?

So take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home..gonna start a new life
Ohhhh, Take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Send a copy to my lawyer..Gonna have a new life
Take a letter Maria..address it to my wife
Say I won't be coming home..fade out[/img]

His name is Peter Frampton,
he had a huge hit in 1976 [before you were born Janeth! ;-) ] with "Show me the way"

I wonder how your feeling
There's ringing in my ears
And no one to relate to 'cept the sea
Who can I believe in
I'm kneeling on the floor
There has to be a force who do I phone
The stars are out and shining, but all I really want to know...
Oh won't you show me the way
I want you ...show me the way
Well, I can see no reason
You living on your nerves
When someone drops a cup and I submerge
I'm swimming in a circle
I feel I'm going down
There has to be a fool to play my part
Well someone thought of healing, but all I really want to know...
Oh won't you show me the way (everyday)
I want you ...show me the way
I want you day after day
I wonder if I'm dreaming
I feel so unashamed
I can't believe this is happening to me
I watch you when you're sleeping, and then I want to take your love
Oh won't you show me the way (everyday)
I want you ...show me the way
I want you day after day
Oh won't you show me the way (everyday)
I want you ...show me the way
I want you day after day

He was really just a kid when he first made it big and by all acounts his live performances were much better than his studio efforts - hence, "Frampton Comes Alive", a two record set that pretty much everyone owned sooner or later (well, except Janeth). The other big hit from that album was "Oooh baby I love your ways" - both heavy on wah-wah guitar and voice-wah... ;o)

January, 2001 will mark the 25th anniversary of Frampton Comes Alive! One of the most respected guitar players of all time, Peter Frampton has always made challenging, interesting, and critically acclaimed albums. Beginning with British bands The Herd and Humble Pie, Frampton quickly cemented his status as a world-class guitar god. Commercial success struck big in 1976 when his immortal Frampton Comes Alive! quickly became the biggest selling album of all time.

Not a teenager in the 70s didn't own a copy of his Frampton Comes Alive, the best-selling live album of all time. Just the name Frampton alone is legendary, as his career has spanned three, going on four decades. Starting in the sixties with the Herd, then rising to fame with Humble Pie, and finally attaining a wildly successful solo career in the mid-70s, Peter Frampton is still coming alive in the 90s. His most recent projects include a performance with the British Rock Symphony in New York City, two tours with Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band, an appearance on VH-1's Hard Rock Live series, his 1998 tour with Lynyrd Skynyrd, an appearance on the Simpsons as himself, and two songs he recorded for an upcoming Walt Disney Records project, Tigger Mania.
He was interviewed a few weeks ago on one of the Ottawa radio programs called (HONEST!) "Middle-Aged Bald Guys Talking Rock'n'Roll". He's now just released or is just about to release a new album but spends most of his time doing movie scores and such and touring with other bands from that era...

A couple years back he appeared in the movie called "Almost Famous" which also had Goldie Hawn's daughter in it...Kate Hudson.

He also did the guitar instruction and score for the movie. The actors has to actually learn how to play the guitar for the live concert footage in the movie.

Yup...I too owned his Comes Alive album...and went to one of his concerts. I remember it as being one of the best that I ever attended. Right up there in showmanship like Jimmy Buffet...but Buffet is more of story teller than a rocker.

Leisa,
I looked reaaally hard like you suggested and I found a few for ya. I went through the archives of "Teen GQ", otherwise known as my school yearbook photos, and found these gems. Enjoy.

Here I am at age 7 wearing a shirt with a collar soo large that I could've taken flight if the wind blew very hard.

Here I am at age 15 in my preppy phase wearing two shirts because I'm just too cool for one.

YEA! You mean to tell me the entire populous of your school was GQ material too? That must have been one heck-uv-a place!!! :)

You know, that two-color thing is pretty trendy. I remember wearing two different colored socks (two colors on each foot) and rolling them down so both colors would show.

Oh, and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who had the "I can see better if they're bigger" cool glasses!!

Thanks for joining the fun!

No way dude! There's simply too much mischief behind those glasses to hide it all! Wouldn't matter what kind of frames you put on them.

I remember those eyes from back in the old school days. (Of course that takes allot, because that was a looooooooooong time ago!) I had that whole "Who me?" innocent look down to an art form. :) I don't know how you figured that out from a couple of pictures but I'm pretty sure that if the fishing industry doesn't work out for you then you've got a promising future as a criminal profiler. See, you can't judge a book by it's two covers!

Sorry wclew, I didn't mean to imply that I disliked the 'untrustworthy looking because they look trustworthy' types, in fact, that 'look' can be used to great advantage and deviousness, and on our teem, that's MVP material.

Did you manually translate that quotation of Mariah's or is it a translation from a website?

I am a big fan of using google 'Language Tools', but with some languages, like Dutch, for instance, I have to do it one word at a time with an online dicyionary which I find using, you guessed it, Google! The french translator handled Mariah straight across with one 'copy'n'paste'. I know barely enough French from my Immersion days - ages 9 through 11, and a grade ten course that I somehow passed, to fumble through rudimentary discourse and to 'estimate' the translations I get from Google for accuracy.

Funny, I was just talking with a collegue about Google being a valuable resourse these days. Indispesible! ( Internet resourses and searches, in any event - Googoo or otherwise)

Now quit calling my bluffs, I will never play at the same poker table as yo! :o)

Gotta keep an eye on that Rocky...sometimes he is just pulling your bullwinkle for the most part. Which brings us back to that horn thing again on the top of Rocky's head. Maybe he is not Rocky at all. ...hmmm

No... it was an animated movie by the guy who previously worked for Disney and then left to do his own thing (Don Bluth maybe?) - his first movie was "The Secret of Nimh" - this was his next one, all about immigrant mice in turn-of-the-century New York trying to defend themselves against cats.

Okay - found it: it was Don Bluth and the movie was "An American Tail" - he also did Land Before Time, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Rock-a-Doodle, etc., and most recently Dragon's Lair.

If you mean your own photo, email it to Brittany (see Member Photos Forum).

If you mean other images, you upload them to your own website or perhaps to one of those on-line albums sites, and then post it here as follows:

We couldn't locate the picture I had in mind, but these are pretty good.

On the right, in B&W, is pic of moi + sister - about 6 and 3.5 respectively, maybe plus about a year. It is relevant thus: first recorded evidence of mikmik charming a 'woman' with 'made up facts'.
It's been all downhill ever since :O)

The color pic, on left(try to keep up, people lol), doesn't show my overbite/buck teeth very well, but shows me at about age 11 or 12.
Relevance: I havent had a haircut for about 1 or 2 years - from the brushcut sporting day when my parents uttered the fateful words, "Mikmik (Michael!), we have decided that , yes, you are now old enough to decided for yourself how to style (!) your own hair. It's been all downhill ever since lol.

Also about this time, a major character shaping event in my development occured.
My dad took me shopping for jeans and we were in the Boys Wear section of the Hudson's Bay. An older woman clerk came up and asked what we were looking for. I replied that I wanted pants that had the biggest flares in stock. She smiled and said, "We get lots of girls in here looking for pants"!!!
I managed to vehemently squeek at her, "I'm not a girl !" as I fled, bawling uncontrolablely from the scene!

Sigh...It's been all downhill ever since :O)

And just between you and I -- baldness is a sign of mental prowess.....

After you have "had a few" take the woman into

good underneath those bright lights, then you
can pretty much bet they will be looking pretty
much the same the following morning. ;0)

Problem is we are not as lucky as you yanks - we don't have 24-hour Quickie Marts. Your lucky if your town has got a 24-hour petrol station never mind a grocery store! Nope, you just gotta find somebody sober and ask if he would like to swap places with ya!

We do have a Captain among us now. So
it does qualify us as a Brigade I would
think. Beer Brigade sounds good.

We have a Minstrel among us now. Even
Spartacus had a song singer, and he had
an Army...so Androgen Army sounds good.

My first thought was The Big Red One, but
that is regressing back to the same sentiments
I had about helmets.

We can just be called "The Dudes" which is
kinda kewl...most of us are just dudes anyway.
At least I think we are all dudes...I should say.

One of my more stupider ones was the "TesteTubes"
and I gave up on that one really quick.
