Well, hi there!
Since a few weeks my www.stefskidsart.com –site dropped extremely in ranking by Google and Yahoo. About two years long, my kid’s art site was at the top of the Google and Yahoo ranking. Since I put a link on my website to the Christian Hour of Power-site, my stefskidsart.com-site is penalizing. Sure, I could be mistaken, but maybe such an Hour of Power-link does not fit in the way of thinking of the Google community. I have removed the Hour of Power-link at this moment. My question is…, is there a change that Google penalizing sites for getting links that not fit in their way of thinking? Well, I hope I am mistaking.

Hi steffrank,

Thanks for posting on WebProWorld!

I moved your post to the Search Engine Discussion forum because this is the forum to ask general questions and get information regarding search engines, whereas the Search Engine Insider Reports forum is meant for discussing the latest interviews, events/conferences, and live reports regarding search engines.

Hopefully, one of the experts or one of your peers here in the Search Engine Discussion forum can help you find a solution to your problem. And if you ever have any questions or need anything, don't hesitate to let me know!

I'll see you around the forums,

Brittany

Here is a quick analsize of your site:

You are using your Title ineffectively.
You are only using 29 characters when you can use up to 100. We suggest that you use a few more words in your TITLE Tag, and try to use your main keywords if possible.

You are using your Description ineffectively.
You are only using 100 characters when you can use up to 250. We suggest that you make your description longer and try to include as many of your main keywords as possible

You are spamming the keyword kids. You are using it 9 times when the maximum is 6 times. This keyword may be rejected by the search engines. You need to remove this keyword from you Meta-Tag Keywords list, so that you are not using it more than 6 times.

You are spamming the keyword art. You are using it 9 times when the maximum is 6 times. This keyword may be rejected by the search engines. You need to remove this keyword from you Meta-Tag Keywords list, so that you are not using it more than 6 times.

You are not using your primary keyword in your keyword meta tags. You need to add your primary keyword to your Meta-Tag Keywords list.

You are using your Description ineffectively.
You are only using 100 characters when you can use up to 250. We suggest that you make your description longer and try to include as many of your main keywords as possible.

You are not using your keywords within the body of your page effectively, you are using 2 of your keywords in the body of your page, when you should use at least 5. We suggest that you add some of your keywords into the body of your main page.

(MOD edit: long repetitive content deleted)

Your page size is very large, it is greater than 40Kb. It is recommended that your home page be no more than 40Kb and the other pages in your site be no more than 30Kb. You need to reduce your page size, or image sizes, or reduce the number of images used, in order to decrease the overall file size.

Basically your page is heavy into images with no keyword text - big NO NO your doorway front page should never be a image only page.

(MOD edit: offensive comments deleted.)

Where do I begin?

First, I'll ask you for the second time tonight to moderate your tone and monitor your words - Please read the WebProWorld Forum Rules (http://www.webproworld.com/rules.html) and try to be respectful to other members when you post or all or part of your posts WILL be deleted.

Second, there is a lot of misinformation in your analysis of steffrank's site but let me just focus on the two paragraphs I quoted. The site is NOT spamming those keywords - there are a number of distinct keyphrases which may include the individual words that you highlight but that is not the same thing at all.

Third, there is limited evidence that the major search engines are currently paying much attention to the keywords metatag, so most of your post is really not addressing steffrank's question.

And fourth, to repeat "First", I can not emphasize strongly enough that if you cannot be courteous, respectful, and civil in your comments about the opinions and websites of other members, you will quickly find that you are not welcome in these forums. On the other hand, if you are prepared to read and follow the WPW rules, your opinions and comments will always be welcome.

Hi David,

Herewith I offer the Google community my apologies for my on respectful comment about penalizing my website because of a link. Know that I read your comment and the quick analsize of the toolman; I understand why my site is penalizing by Google and Yahoo. It was not my intention to be on respectful, and impolite in my comments about the opinions and websites of other members. I respect the Google community. I hope you and the Google community will accept my apologies.

Thank you again for your help.

steffran, there is no need for you to apologize - you have done nothing wrong at all. My comments were meant for toolman who had posted several messages in different topics that were insulting to other members.

Hi,

Well, now I know now that the comment was meant for Toolman, I am relieved. It is stupid of me. It is the first time for me to enjoy an internet forum. I did not know how its works. Now it is clear to me. We have a Kid’s Art School in the Netherlands with 3124 students in the age of 4 – 19 years old. Stefs Kids Art is a non-profit site run by children's art enthusiasts in the Netherlands. Almost every kid in our Kid’s Art School uses the Google search engine. In my opinion, it is the best and fastest search engine there is. In November of this year, I received many e-mails from my students, telling me that Google penalizes our website www.stefskidsart.com. All the kids were very disappointed. A day before our site was penalizes, one of the older kids had put an Hour of Power-link on the index of our website. So, everybody thought, this could be one of the possible reasons, that the site is penalizes. Remember this, since two years and three months the stefskidsart.com site was always at the top of the Google and Yahoo search engines (kids art), suddenly, it has disappeared. That’s why, I put my question on the WebProWorld forum. I also have mailed to Sergey Brin at the Stanford University, I receive no answer yet from him. Well…, I am always positive, so, maybe Google will put our Kid’s art site back at the top of the search engine.

Many thanks to David J.Baxter and Janeth Duque for there pleasant e-mails.
Stef Frank.

I will try to get back and have a closer look at your site when I can - this is always a busy time of year for me in my "real" job...

Bear in mind, though, that Google has been making some changes which may not yet be finished, and that these changes have affected how many websites are listed in the search results. It may be that there is nothing you have changed on your website to cause the change...

Hi steffrank

Can you give me the key word that you lost your ranking for?

Hi steffrank

Can you give me the key word that you lost your ranking for?

Janeth, it was kids art. Also, he said that the penalization occured suddenly in November.

Two-word phrases disappearing in November...hmmm. Where have I heard that one before?

Steffrank, just to let you know, you are not alone with this dilemma. A lot of websites who enjoyed number one rankings at Google prior to November (and who have been number one for eons it seems) suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth.

This is a new algorithm (a filter) that Google has recently enacted. Your students who reported this to you are probably aware of this new filter, for they used the word "penalize" in their reports. They can probably explain it to you better than us (and in your own language) than most of us could.

There is also a lot of reports and postings to this forum in regards to this new filter. You can browse back through some of the Google postings and articles here at Web World to get a better understanding of what is going on.

Finally -- has this penalization really hurt your traffic to the website at all? Or is it just a general question in regards to what is going on at Google?

Thanks Ron

To add to what Ron said I would not repeat the word in the title and you also have two desc. and two key word tags I would remove those so you only have one of each. I would also move the title to the top of the page followed by desc and key word tag.

This is just a start but should help a lot.

Hi there,

Thank you so much for your help. Our site had years of very good rankings and the kids and I would love to know what is REALLY going on! Yes, I have read the Google postings and articles here at Web World, and that the new algorithm has affected many websites. Now I know that we are not the only one. Our website is made/ designed by 3 girls (Karin, Irene and Denise). They are all 17 years old now. They are also students of our Kid’s Art School. I am very proud of them for making this big website. The kids do there very best to promote the website. Well, the are successfully in doing it.

Well Janeth, we thank you for your advice. I forward your advice to Karin. She will correct it now.

Thanks
Stef, Karin, Irene and Denise.

Stef - why don't you have the girls just join up with the forum here at WPW? That way if they have any individual questions or need further advice, then they are just one click away from getting it.

I am sure that everyone here would like to have them come on board with us. Perhaps they can teach us a few things or two in the process.

Hi Ron,
Because our website is made by 17 years old kids, that’s why I am a little bit afraid that some members of the forum will make a negative statement and leave the kids hanging out to dry. These three girls and many other kids are very proud of there website, that they will be sad when someone (like mr. Toolman) make a negative statement or comment. Well, some of his points are meaningful, but much of what he said is not. That’s why I forward each statement or comment to the girls. I did not forward the statement of mr. Toolman. Just take it easy, they are only kids.

Well Ron, I will forward your suggestion to let the girls join up with the WPW-forum to them. They are on their Christmas holidays now, so you will receive their answer probably in the New Year.

Well, herewith I wish Brittany, Frank (Toolman), David J. Baxter, Janeth Duque, Ron the Dodger and the Google community Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year / Vrolijk Kerstfeest en een Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar !!

May God bless you all…
Stef Frank and the Art Kids.
(This is the real reason for the season! This is the true miracle of Christmas! Celebrating the birth of Christ our Lord and Savior! The only gift that matters is the one given to us freely if we would just choose Him! If you haven't already, ask Jesus to change your life! )

Looking forward to seeing them next year.

And don't worry about any chastising. The group here has a way of dealing with it, I am sure. After all, I received a nasty slap on the wrist for mentioning something about some unmentionables..hehehe....and I promise that I will never do it again (intentionally of course) ;-)

Vrolijk Kerstfeest en een Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar !!
