New Athlon 64 bit is launched. Is compared to Intel, Athlon better.

I have always used pentium. If anyone in this forum uses athlon, I would be grateful if they can throw some light on the performace of Athlon.

We use photoshop and Illustrator for our design works..Will athlon be good for us or it for hardcore gaming people who just play games.

HI namita,

I'm not really a hard-core computer wiz, but it seems that really amd is just as good a pentium for your uses.
Yes it tends to be more used by techies and gamers, but I think that has more to do with amd's ability to be over-clocked, it's cheaper and the fact that most of the general public have only heard of Intel because of their superior branding.

I'm actually going to be dumping one of my systems for an AMD early next week. We'll see how it goes.

If you can get your hands on Maximum PC magazine (December 2003 issue), they have a head-to-head showdown comparison of Amd - Intel - Apple.

In the cpu category, they did a comparison of the new AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 against Pentium 4 3.2Ghz and say AMD beats out Intel.

AMD has shoved Intel out of the winner's circle with its Athlon 64 series of processors

Last month, we tested the Athlon 64 FX-51 against a 3.2Ghz Pentium 4, and found that in areas where the Pentium 4 previously reigned supreme, the Athlon 64 FX is now faster

and the price tag? $800 US
