Of course, having valid code has always been important, but is it true that MSN is putting a lot of weight on ranking pages if their code is "perfectly formed"?

In my experience, MSN does like to have valid HTML, but most search engines do. Some sites rank pretty well with some nasty code. One of the sites I am working on has horrible code, but still manages to get good placement.
Hope this helps.

I have never seen any proof that it helps you rank. But I have seen a lot of proof that it does not matter.

We're far from validated HTML, but rank #1 for most all of our targeted key phrases. I won't say that it doesn't help in a highly competitive area, but for us it doesn't seem to matter.
