I am one of those poor small businesses that have put a lot of effort into our web site with excellent content on a very specific niche market only to have been wipe away by google last month.

In our market, our website provides very good content and is all done inside by us rookies. We were proud of the fact that we had worked our way up to #1 for the 2 most important key phrases for our market, those being stretch wrapper and pallet wrapper. If you look at the scroogle site you can see that we were wiped out. In fact 90 of the top 100 sites were knock out. They were replaced by non content directory sites and dead sites. We still did OK as a couple of the directories (including one on the first page) is a link to us.

My question is that of keyword placement. As we are very focused on just wrapping equipment it is difficult to limit the number of times we use these words. It is like having an automobile web site and not saying car or auto too often.

We have tried to "optimize" by using "machine" on some pages and "equipment" on other "stretch film machine" and "pallet wrapper" on others but I fear we may be getting knocked out because stretch wrapper and pallet wrapper are competitive phrases for google (adwords costs 2.95 a click for top placement)and thus we are "filtered out".

I was also curious about the point about updates to a site. Did I understand from some of you that sites having been changed or updated recently might be better off. This freshening up of the site implies newer fresher content and thus more relevant? Makes sense but...

I did notice that all of our 3 word phrases are still right up there on the first page like used stretch wrapper, pallet wrapper parts, pallet wrap equipment, stretch wrap equipment etc. so I guess I am a classic example of what has happened.

Thanks for your views

This is what is happening all over the web with all those spamming techniques used by people. Google's biggest filter is what would I call Florida.

I suggest you get some Link Building done and with pace of time things could be all set.

Nakul,

I hear you. But I don't think we are spamming on our web site. We have made a concerted effort to give many pages of unbiased information about our market niche. I view myself as one of those who have been caught in the filter net meant for "spammers". The only thing I can think of is that perhaps our "keyword" concentration got us caught up in it.

Link building is something we are working on but I have learned from this forum and from practice that this is not as critical as having the good content. In fact we see an almost immediate return on investment when we upload a solid page of content. It is almost scary what a well constructed page can do for you, and to be honest it takes as much effort to build the links (or maybe more) as it does to produce good content. At that point we are working harder at creating the content.

Thanks
