Jusr read through this on Paid text links.

Interesting enough.
and was curios if there is any values left and where they are.
I avoid ever paying for them, and with the increase in MSN traffic I see the need to do so, and the overall value of these links declining. I often feel I have exhausted the free sources, and beat the free directories into the ground.
But I am curious of anyones insight to good value:results:PR link sources of this nature.....or if there is really no market need left for it?

Directories continue to be hugely popular resources. There are tons of good free ones out there and lots of good values available in the paid category.
Here's a good list that includes some very reasonable deals...

The easiest way to get quality paid links in to advertise in the major media, and insist that they hard code the ad with no ad server. However, the SE have found a way to identify these links, and discount them. So, in anyswer to your question, the only value to paid links is if real people follow the links to make purchases.

Yeah jacob I had read that newspapers are a key source and I had seen that you do that for the houston marklet "if i am correct".
I have not found a good local source here in charlotte that will give an actual static link without a redirect of some sort, But i admittedly didnt look at those too long anyhow, as I have time to spedn of free directories only.
I have seen that link above before for the paid ones and again didnt pay much mind as I wasnt ready to pay.
I may give seekon.com a few bucks since he is a regular poster and keep the money in the neighborhood is a good concept.
And I almost 'bucked up for Joeant', but the change in power to MSN providing me with 40%+ of my hits has swayed me from spending.
I am still not convinced of any true need for links for MSN. A few yes, but clearly it is a small factor from our early results.

Regarding the statement:
"I often feel I have exhausted the free sources, and beat the free directories into the ground."
may I ask what your favorite 7 free resources are? The #1 favorite for most of us is probably DMOZ.

I had taken the free directories list from the other webproworld post sticky, the entire list as an excel, and fed it through the thinkbling.com PR checking tool, as it does 50 at a time pretty fast, I then was left with a PR ordered list, I have gone down the list from PR 9 to 4 hand entering each.
I am working on the DMOZ issues trying to get everything listed, in my submissions I found some categories I 'understand well' that needed some editing badly, I first notified CBP of the bad inclusion I had found, which he swiftly put to the right people and 1 week later it is resolved (just to give props for the effort), well I am awaiting the application now to edit this category.
CBP if you are a meta its under the name NCMike.
Otherwise DMOZ is a dont worry and wait matter.
these are some of the PR 6 to 8 freebies I found to be easy to submit to.....as in free and not asking for recip links.

problem is some of these I found have low PR link pages themselves, this is why it is time to pay a few bucks and get on some PR5+ pages if the value is right.
The links AndrewX provided seem to be a great start, and Ive applied to edit a few, and will pay for a few others.

We are still seeing SEOs continue to purchase large amounts of text link advertisements with much success. The key as always is to build slowly and keep your text link ads relevant.
Of course, if you are a site with 10 inbound links and you go to 10,000 overnight this may raise a red flag. Or if you sell credit cards and your link ads are from gambling sites you may not get the boost or click throughs you hoped to receive.

Gee thanks guys, more submitting and I thought www.pheedster.com/directories.php - was bad enough -oh hum!
Now interestingly enough, there is yet another way to get decent links. Local Tourist Boards, many of these have quality local sites who are quite happy to reciprocate links.
Now, how many of you have thought about E Spotting on PPC ? - if you simply go for a really cheap programme $100 per annum - you can get some very good Directory Links, Overture is moving in the Directory direction as well, the only problem that I can see is that you have no control over where they submit. Your thoughts

And I got this today from Mike at Real Estate Forums, looks good

Running this through preview it takes me to the same system but a different page, but I think you can navigate through to it, failing that I'll cut and paste the list, let me know
Kenny BP I have PM'd you
