View Full Version : Is anyone getting any traffic from MSN?
I have been getting some awesome SERPs on MSN for some fairly new sites. Problem is that my logs are not snowing any MSN traffic.

If it isn't snowing, it must be warm or no precipitation. :-)
Anyway, we are indeed seeing some significant MSN traffic. We're getting almost equal shares Google, MSN, and Yahoo at the moment (#1 for our chosen terms on all of them at the moment.)
If you're not seeing traffic, then your ideal visitor must not be searching for that phrase on MSN. May be time to start doing more key phrase research.
Brian.
Anyone else getting a sense of deja vu. Sorry about that. Please ignore this thread and see http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=38541
I just found this in my log:
# Hits Referrer

Very happy with our MSN results! They're already +25% of our traffic behind some nice natural results for a lot of high profile searches.
Go MSN!

Aside from a bandwidth eating bot, the results are great. It seems that many people are feeling the same as our traffic from the new MSN is really improved from the old and our placements are about the same, we didn't gain or drop more than one position. Must be more people using it.
Brian, if it's snow you want, I can send you all you want. 3.5 feet in the past 24 hours. Got a shovel?

I slated MSN the other week! It was a bit stupid of me because I hadn't checked things out properly. So, I hold my hands up and say sorry MSN.
What I've found is the new MSN search engine is absolutely brilliant.
It updates almost instantly, within a couple of days or so... CONSTANTLY!
The results are better than all the other engines put together. There's even direct instructions on what to do and what not to do when submitting pages and sites to MSN.
MSN makes Google look sick and I'm not sorry to say this... This is a war that Google is gonna lose BIG TIME! MSN are gobbling up Google in chunks!
WHY?
Pay per click and back links... INVENTED BY GOOGLE!
MSN uses a natural process of revenue streams with major national companies. Eg BT in the UK.
I keep saying this and I will say it again...
Anyone who believes Google will be able to persist with their current strategies and take on Microsoft and win are living in cloud cuckoo land!

Our MSN Traffic is actually down from January. After the Google Allegra Update we moved from 180 something in the SERP's to number 4 & 5 for our main key phrases. We rank very well for our main key phrasses on all 3 of the search engines listed below.
January Stats:
Engines/Percent
Google/57.1%
Yahoo/21.6%
MSN/11.6%
February Stats:
Engines/Percent
Google/66.3%
Yahoo/14.7%
MSN/9.5%

Get loads of traffic.
Not much traffic from msn, only about 7% of my total traffic. Most come from yahoo and google. As brian.marks says i really should do more keyword research

Your code is nice, reads like a book, heavy comments with keywords, no code clutter.
I am getting huge jumps in MSN traffic myself on every site, but MSN has been unbeleiveably easy to seo so far. And since it is a ratio, the low ranking the google update slapped on me is why MSN seems even more dominating in our results.

About 25% of search engine traffic to my site comes from MSN. I only seem to get a little from Yahoo. Most, of course, from Google.

We have a new site sitting at number 6 for search engine optimization on MSN.
Itīs getting around 60 visitors a day from MSN but I really thought it would be a lot more then that.
I guess that will grow in time.
For another site we are ranked for website design in about the same place we are ranked on Google, Yahoo and MSN
The traffic from Google is 3/4 more for that search term at this time, again I expect it will get better.

I rank well with a couple of my keywords on MSN but overall I would say no more than 5-10% of traffic is from there. They have also been very slow to fully index my site.

Since the change with MSN my traffic from them has dropped 50%, personally I think they are working through some Algor problems.
YAHOO and GOOGLE are still going strong though!

Did your ranking change or has the traffic just slowed down?

Yes, our msn traffic is up. The only thing is msn was dormand in the search industry bud starting to advertise a lot now. so traffic levels will go up. the only problem is still see is search.msn.com users dont want to first go to the www.msn.com than click on search. so the new browser microsoft is launching in 2 months we can only hope that there be a standard not to be removable searchbox. than the traffic will spike. so Bill if you also read this good forum. thats what i would like or change that full of advertising portal www.msn.com to a need and clean search engine.

we have seen a traffic increase (about 20% increase) since the new MSN went online.
currently our traffic from search engines are in this order
1) yahoo 40%
2) MSN 40%
google and the rest comprise rest of 20%

My MSN traffic has dropped slightly, but not as much as Google, where I have dropped off the radar altogether. Google seems to have started removing any online casino related sites from its SERPs, despite the fact that gambling is perfectly legal in most non-US countries.
I think MSN may be going the same way, which I see as a worrying development for freedom of choice and of information. What would Tim BL think!

Since Google operates out of a state where gambling is illegal (other than on Idnian reservations) it perfectly makes sense.
With msn I'm not so sure ... I heard Bill Gates like to gamble :D

Eveyone's web site is different.
Currently, the MSN bot and the Inktomi bot are
pounding my site really hard. Good!!
Ask Jeeves is pounding hard, too.
I get twice as many hits from MSN as Google
(and I am an OS/2 Warp web site)!!
Yahoo sends me five times more traffic than Google,
the teenagers search engine!!

Greeting to you persons.
I have been getting a no.1 result for msn and i am reciaving exactly 1/4 of the results i would get for the similar no.1 listing in google.
I am no.1 for msn.com but no.3 for .co.uk and if i has no.1 for both i would be expecting a 1/2 of the traffic i get from google.
The `sandbox` in google does keep me out of it but the no sandbox and request of h1 and h2 tags in msn.com is a good thing.

Right now, I'm getting less than .05% of my traffic from MSN. Does anyone know how to increase this for me. 75% is coming from Google.
It doesn't matter how many Number One positions or Top Fives I have I still am seeing very negligible traffic from MSN.
Noone seems to be clicking.
