Based on their history over the past 26 going on 27 years, that's normal. They'll peak about Christmas time and by the time the playoffs roll around they'll be on to their usual 87 game losing streak... ;o)

The Toronto Maple Leafs website (http://www.torontomapleleafs.com) has the defiant title, "The Game Never Ends"... or maybe that's just what the spectators are thinking.. as they're watching! ;-)

Check out their glorious victories over the years on this interactive Flash timeline (http://www.torontomapleleafs.com/timeline/timeline.html)

A quick question Dave, have you ever heard of the Jack Adams trophy? Me neither... anyway 1993 was the year of that great triumph! :c)

They have so many teams and playoffs now it's ridiculous - there's probably a trophy for each one. It really is sad. They play something like 85 games (I've lost count) in the regular season, at which point half of the teams advance to the playoffs! Couldn't that be done after about, oh, I don't know, two weeks? One consequence of this is that the Leafs do make the playoffs most years but it's not a great accomplishment.

Sure, go ahead and ruin it for me.
Guess you're not a hockey fan...
Consider there are 82 games in a season and most teams will have played 35 games by Christmas, your losing streak assessment quite inacurrate

somewhat... I do find the regular season a little difficult to get excited about since as I said in the previous post most of the teams will make it into the playoffs anyway so I'm not sure I get the point of the first 82 games. In the old days, I used to be a Canadiens and Bruins fan - these days, I sort of root for the Senators. Regardless, I have always hated the Leafs and Detroit.

Cyanide what do you ecpect from some one that roots for the Habs, Bruins, and Sens. Some people would not know good hockey (read Toronto Maple Leafs) unless it bit them in the backside.

As I have posted before I cheer for two teams, the Leafs and who ever is playing against the Habs.

BTW did you hear that Gretsky was going to retire in Ottawa... he wanted to get as far away from Professional hockey as possible.

Or the difference between the Vacouver Canucks and Tiger Woods?

Tiger gets paid to play Golf in April.

As Leaf fans, you guys would know more about golf than us in the Ottawa-Montreal corridor. If I recall, the Leafs were playing golf just a bit earlier than the Senators last spring, weren't they?

Having played 1-3 games more than most of the others ? ;-) Impressive..hehe ;-)

Coz the cannucks dont 'really' play rugby, I loved watching the ice hockey. Used to go whenever I could to the Corel center. :-)

Who do you root for?
The Sens of course! The All Blacks on skates ! :-)

It peeeves me the slack support base they have too. Every time the seasons finish, their future is in doubt, who is going to own them, talk of losing their venue, their so called fans & the media bag them. Yet, they have a better history over the past decade than the Leafs! At the end of the 2003 season they had recorded the most regular season wins of any Canadian team since 1996. The Sens also hold the record among Canadian teams to make the playoffs, (7 times I think). No matter if they win or lose the finals, thats a pretty good record to be proud of. Fickle fans I tell ya! Its that crappy uniform..they need to upmarket it ;-)

Who do you like to win it all?

(EC)Philly are looking good & NJ. Of the cannuck teams, I am still going for the Sens :-) Tampa Bay for the US.

(WC)Colorado & St Loius. I think Calgary will finish on top for Canada & St Louis for the US. But I will still root for the Dallas Stars :-)

even though bleeding blue&white, will always give credit where it's due. Both teams mentioned, Ottawa Senators and Vancouver Canucks are great teams, no doubt! In fact I have players from both in my pools.

What can I say?, when you've grown up watching them, it's hard to root for anyone else. That said, I do agree to some extent about the negativity of parts of the team

You think leaf's fans are deluded? This is honestly the first time in my life that I don't think Montreal has a chance, unless they come up with another 'unknown' young goalie to carry them on his back! I think that is their strategy every year.
It all started in '73 with the Langway trade to Wachington, but that didn't stop them so they got rid of Chelios, then came the - "You know your days are numbered when: You are made captain of the Canadiens!" years.

If we habs fans weren't so delusional, we might have had to start a riot! (Muarice richard suspended in play-offs 1950's)

Thanks for the boost. (O: But I expect that they would have less talent off skates, and there is no goalie in rugby to carry the team! Add another 20 try's against, per half, to the scores from the World Cup. That would be them.

Yes, I was sweating a bit during the last referendum, and true to Canadian form, the big topic out west that night was "What will they call the Montreal Canadiens if they seperate?" !!
Answer: Les Habitant ( which, ironically, means the same as "Canuck" (O:

David Beckham, the famous English soccer player, is teaching his new son Romeo the finer points about soccer. After a while Romeo asks his Dad what number he should have on his uniform when he starts playing for a team.

David replies, "Wear 4 out there Romeo."

Finally!! A REAL sport to talk about!!!!
Makes the north american versions of 'sports' look like a "Disney Presentation!"
A sport that not only takes incredible stamina and strenght (not like rugby, though. Those guys are MONSTERS), It takes a level of skill and cunning that is beyond the understanding of other mere 'brutes'

And Those Guys Wrote The Book On Ill Behaved Hero's!!!
It's got it all, sex, corruption, murder, intrigue, shenanigans..

Now that's HOCKEY!! (soccer, I mean!) [o;

Well I don't know about that, but I do know that they can't have any less talent ON skates.

The Leafs are the perfect team because people eith love or hate them. And those that hate them do so because they are so good.

To those who bash the Leafs I say this. The More you bash them the more you prove my point.

The last Canadian team to make it to the finals of the Stanley cup were the Vancouver Canucks in 1994; they were beaten finalists losing to the New York Rangers.

The previous year, the Montreal Canadiens WON the final, beating the Los Angeles Kings.
