Hy, after several hundred Dollars lost, my network connection between two computers still fail.

Here are the details of what we have as far as hardware and software is concerned.

Mainboard AMD ( Mercury)
Size One computer 80 GB one 40GB
Programs Microsoft Service pac 2
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1
DNS 213.55.64.36
Alternate 213.55.64.38
One computer is master and the other is slave.

The problem is that the second computer loses communication with the first one, not on the shared file and printer but to the internet.

This often happened previously when the power failed. We installed a battery backup but that did not fix the problem.

The icon on the slave, shows that the internet is connected but it is not and keeps wishing to dial out.

The modem and network cards are high grade APC and not the integrated AMD's

Please help if you have an answer!

Virtually yours,
Ronny Moore

Let's back up a little bit.

How are you connecting to the Internet? Are you using Cable, DSL or dialup? How are the two computers connecting to each other? Are you running a router? Switches? Hubs? Are you directly connecting using a crossover cable? Are both computers in the same workgroup? Are you using DHCP or static IPs?

Most home network connectivity problems are fairly simple to diagnose and troubleshoot. The problem usually isn't XP or any other operating system unless (gasp) you are using Microsoft Millennium.

Please provide additional information.
