Ok, I'm a bit new at this and call me slow but I didn't know anything about poison or stop words until I read this:

Poison words, are words that are known to decrease your pages rankings if a search engine finds them in the title, description or in the url. They don't kill, they just bury pages in rankings.

What are some new poison words?

Bookmarks, Links, Resources, Directory, Search Engine, Forum, BBS, in their singular and plural forms were, at one time, known to be poison words (robot skipped words) but this is nolonger the case.

Well we are in the business of selling bookmarks! Not internet spam boookmarks, but actual metal hook shaped bookmarks. (http://www.hookmarks.com)

So my question is, am I seriously supposed to NOT use the word bookmark in my site for fear it will stop the google bot?

Here's the meta info for the #2 site for the keyword bookmarks on Google (#1 was bookmarks.yahoo.com):

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">
<meta name="keywords" content="bookmarks, favorites, favorite places, travel, travel aids, business aids, organizer, free, portable computing, browser aids, internet tools, worldwide access, remote access, surfing, tools, students, productivity, desktop,
links, business application, commuter, frequent flyer, colleges, universities, research, search, explore">
<meta name="description" content="MyBookmarks - access your bookmarks anytime, anywhere. Free productivity tool for business, student or personal use.">
<title>MyBookmarks.com - Access your bookmarks online anytime, anywhere</title>

This comes from the site mybookmarks.com. Check out the body text, full of the keyword bookmark(s). I wouldn't worry about it.

I just did a search at Google for the keyword "bookmarks", and they show 12,300,000 page results. So, I don't guess it's a poison keyword. You'd just have to be very dang good to get listed near the top.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for that CBP.

Who generates all these myths anyway?

Who generates all these myths anyway?

Remember those threads we had a year or so ago on myths .... its pretty much someone posts an idea, suggestion or theory in one place/forum and it then soon turns up in another place/forum as a fact ....

Thanks for your responses guys!

I got the info from
http://www.website-marketing.org/which I saw posted by a lot of people here as a good resource.. which is why I took it kinda seriously.

We do sort of have a double whammy in that it really is a competitive term because of all those spammy internet bookmark sites :(
