Without making any major changes, my positioning in Google under "aviation art" went from 67 to 255 to 799 in a matter of a month. Also, many of my linked sites no longer show up when I query my own URL (www.aviationarthangar.com) in Google. Any ideas what may have happened? Thanks everyone.

When did you add the Christmas decorations and the shopping countdown at the top of the page?

The decorations were added about 2 weeks ago. The countdown timer about 5 days ago. I'm guessing that by your question, that will affect the search engines? (Bear with me, I'm truly a novice :)

Thanks for the feedback Cyanide. It's true that misery loves company, but I don't need misery right at the beginning of the Christmas buying season! Do you know of any reason why the we're experiencing it right now? Anything that might address the prob?

Whenever making minor changes it's good to keep old site/page copy to immediately replace when rankings drop to see if those changes initiated the problem. Yes, anything placed between the top of the page and relevant HTML can make a big difference.
Have you tried going back to what you had and seeing if that helps?
Even if it does or doesn't, you might try scattering seasonal decorations throughout the page and alt tagging them along page relevant lines such as "____ _____ make great Christmas Gifts". You might also try adding relevant HTML (keyword rich) at the top of the page, above any graphics. Top of the page graphics should always be alt tagged with at least some relevancy. One last suggestion visit scroogle.com or google-watch.org and see if any of your keywords have been demoted recently by Google in the SEO shake & bake.

Hi rosnbex,
I hate to see this happening to you.
There are two things you can do one is wait I herd some people saying Google was going to make some changes this week.
The other thing would be try and fix the site for the new filter.
Which would be getting rid of alt tags, not using key words in the title if you use them in the body text not using key words in h1 tags and things like that
