Our site is listed in Yahoo and Google. Using the keywords "technical diving Philippines", we are no. 8 in Google and No. 6 in Yahoo. Previously, I remember we were at the top 5 in both engines (about 3-4 weeks ago).
I just wonder how these SE's index pages for their ranking.

Well, you are seeing Google results in Yahoo, so it's really just Google. The positions are different because Google is show 2 pages from two of the sites listed...
The truth is no one knows exactly how it works, but we do know that many factors are involved. Here are some that we think are in the order of importance:
The words on the page
The title tag
The description tag
The page name
The domain name
HTML optimization like using the H1 tags
How many sites link to yours and how popular are those sites that link to yours.
I left linking last because while some people seem to think it's the most important thing, we do not. I have seen sites with no links get traffic, so I know it's only one part of the puzzle.
The most important thing is you can do is keyword research so you have what people are seraching with on your site.
I did a quick check for "technical diving Philippines", and I did not see that there has been any searches for that phrase in the last 30 days, but I see that there has been over 300 searches for "scuba diving Philippines". So, you may want to look into doing some keyword research if you have not done so already.

Hi Christian_SEO,
Thanks a lot for the input. I'm thinking of redesigning our site and I will consider all the info you gave.
