What is the problem? I probably use http://www.AllTheWeb.com more often than I use google - and did a search for Canadian Clothing - and your site (www.canadianclothing.ca) were listed fourth from the top. Unless there are two different companies using the same front page??

It appears that AllTheWeb is just slow to show new listings in their index. It generally takes about 2-3 months after Google shows a site before we see it through WPG and the SERPs are different than Google. You can try their fee based service if you want to pay.

Hey Grease,

I ran WebPosition Page Critic on 1 of my pages using AllTheWeb as the engine to optimize for. Below is some of the suggestions returned.

A keyword prominence of at least 45% is suggested for the Alt area.

A keyword frequency from 1 to 10 is suggested for the Body Text area.

A word count from 293 to 510 is suggested for the Body Text area.

A keyword prominence of at least 42% is suggested for the Body Text area.

A total frequency from 3 to 19 is suggested for the page as a whole.

A total word count from 258 to 628 is suggested for the page as a whole.

In general, home pages will rank higher than sub-pages, all other things being equal. Therefore, if you are looking for an additional advantage, consider purchasing additional domains named after the most important Keywords you wish to optimize, and then optimize the home page for each domain for a different Keyword.

If you listed a Keyword 2 times in a row. AllTheWeb (Fast) is known to penalize for this. Separate keywords with other words to avoid penalties.

I have used WebPosition for years and it's a great tool. We are currently #4 of 81,240 results returned on AllTheWeb for our main keyword.

I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for your help!
Yes Heylars, my ranking is good for 'canadian clothing', however my major concern is the number of sites that the search engine picks up. According to several reporting tools I used, the # of links we have in ALLtheWeb are relatively low compared to our competition - even though our google #'s are decent.

Thanks so much John!
ATW has been hit or miss with the sites I've worked on thus far and I have noticed it's slow to pick up our pages. Though what you've listed for optimization tips seems pretty standard the %'s listed were an unknown factor to me and I really appreciate your taking the time to look into it.
I LOVE this forum!

Wow, what a timely question! I had just noticed a few weeks ago that one of my sites is no longer indexed by ATW. It used to be. I resubmitted it, but so far no listing.

When I say it's not indexed, I mean that I enter the full URL of the site and it returns the message that it is not indexed and no further information. Yet, and here's what has me confused, when I use a very generic single word search term, it is the first site listed below the sponsored listings in ATW.

Since the site was still found via the typical search, I wasn't too concerned. Another site I have that was submitted about the same time is still indexed using the URL and it has the same basic structure as the other site, yet the content is totally different. In other words, I'm using the same type of meta tags and there is no spamming of keywords or other funny business and I'm not duplicating content. As a matter of fact, the site that is not indexed has a lot more links pointing towards it than the one that is listed.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? Oh, on Google, the site is also listed first for the same generic search term. Yet, using other search terms that it rates highly for in Google, it is not found as high, but it is still up there in ATW.

I don't mention the URLs as I do not want to draw traffic to the sites unnecessarily. I like to look at the web logs as purely as possible. So, if anyone has any general ideas, I'm all ears.

Thanks.

Hey Red,

"ATW has been hit or miss with the sites I've worked on..." "...the %'s listed were an unknown factor to me..."

You should check into WebPosition Gold 2 (http://www.webposition.com/). It's a fantastic tool. It gives you that kind of information for ATW and about 30 other search engines and directories. I have used it on every site I've done and they all rank well. It helps to eliminate the guess work (hit or miss) and saves a lot of time.

You can download a trial version of WebPosition Gold 2 at their site. But I would highly recommend you buy the software, it is worth the price in time savings alone.

Have fun

Good morning!
I know you're 100% correct. In fact I have purchased it twice over the past couple of years and originally found it very difficult to use.
Admittedly, until 3 years ago I'd never laid a finger on a keyboard or mouse so it was more of a learning curve issue. I bought the book recently "Search Engine Optimization with WebPosition Gold 2" and sent an email to Brent Winters in regards to the work that goes into learning his program, making the suggestion that the training video should be free for all.
He immediately answered my email (I was in shock)sent me a copy of the video and the only thing stopping me is lack of time.
Your post has now made me reprioritize (:
I'm putting everything else aside because I know how right you are.
Thanks for the reminder!

I ran the Page Critic using Google as the search engine to optimize for.

Contained in the Webposition Page Critic Results:

Google has stated a policy that they do not like any type of automated program to query their service. In rare cases, they have been known to ban IP's or sites caught conducting automated queries. However, they went on to say that if you run automated searches on Google, that you do so during non-peak hours (late at night, US Pacific Standard Time). Therefore, in respect to Google's wishes, we suggest that when using the Reporter, that you take advantage of the Scheduler program to schedule your Reporter missions to run during off peak hours whenever possible. You should also consider spreading your missions out during the month rather than running a large group of missions or queries during a short time period. Lastly, consider using the 'slow search' option in WebPosition Gold 2's Option tab.

The Page Critic alone is worth the price of WebPosition. If you don't feel comfortable using the Submitter or Reporter portions don't. However the Reporter is a valuable tool and if used during off-peak hours it should not affect your standing with Google. Also when using the Submitter, you can choose which search engines and directories you want to submit to.

Hi, joliettech:

Yes, thanks for clarifying - I was indeed relaying a warning on the automated submission feature of WebPosition Gold only, which does not mean that other aspects of the software aren't useful.

I haven't looked at any recent versions of WebPosition Gold - good to see that they are including this information for purchasers.

I would rather do the work/research myself than spend a ton of money on software.

If you are referring to the cost of WebPosition Gold, it's $149.00 per year for 4 licences and $200 more for unlimited use.
Doing it myself worked really well until I had no life at all and couldn't remember what day of the week it was. That day is here.
This software costs a whole lot less than the alternative- which for me would be hiring an assistant to help me with the research.
It as taken nearly 3 years (through word of mouth only) to become successful enough to even think such thoughts. The other side is that it took this long to be able to fully understand the software properly as I posted earlier.
For me, this is a cost of doing business...
I don't consider it cheating like some of the purists out there, just another tool to help both my clients and myself achieve our respective goals.
I plan to implement WebPosition Gold right away.
