View Full Version : Why I Like WebProWorld Forums

I have joined other forums of this kind but never posted to them. One reason is that neither the moderators nor the posters seemed to be serious-minded adults and there was a great deal of sarcasm and insults going back and forth. Another reason was that a few other forums were run by dictatorial individuals with serious ego problems. I feel very much at home here and am satisfied with my interactions and high quality of information received. Bouquets to you all!

I was the same. I had been on a couple of other forums & didn't interact much. The egos were pretty over powering. I actually joined WPW in July as you can see, but I dont think I made my first post until maybe Aug/Sept. I'd get my newsletters & read the topics I was interested in.

But I wish I had started interacting sooner. Because now I look back & think that was a couple of months I missed out on the friendship & fantastic learning experiences I have had since.

So dont feel shy about jumping in on discussions. Some users have teeth & could bite...but there are always people around with bigger teeth :-)

And ego's on here are mainly in jest!

Welcome to WPW :-)

Thank you, Cindy and Cyanide, for your kind words. I am now motivated to complete my profile and would appreciate if someone could tell me how to do this. I don't see any information on profile updating anywhere.

The ' edit profile' is located right at the top towards the right on the blue bar between log in and private messages.

Or you can try this link http://www.webproworld.com/profile.php?mode=editprofile

I've been involved in a few forums...and try to actively participate. Some have been great experiances...I've actually met a few of the members in my travels. Some have been horrible. On one programming Forum...I asked a question and was treated like dirt by this 16 year old (thinks he) knows it all. I posted a rant about how I felt...if you don't want to help people with less knowledge/experience than you, then don't participate...and how insulting the members were. I ended up getting a very nice reply from the owner of the site. The Kid was banned (I wasn't the first to complain). Now I am an active participant.

I've joined several forums, but yours is the one I keep coming back to. The things I have learned here can not be taught in a classroom. I've had members go waaaaay out of their way to help out, all without making me feel totally ignorant.

The newsletter is a great reminder to check in often. I learn something new every time! I can't thank you (all) enough.

You know, some people spend thousands of dollars in travel and seminar expenses to get the kind of information you can find in these forums. (Brittany, please don't start charging. I'll have lynch mob at my door if you do.) If I only had 36 hours in each day to be able to apply all the great knowledge I find in these forums, I would truly be a happy man. I appreciate the ability to not only gain knowledge but to share as well.

there was a great deal of sarcasm...

And you will find some of that here as well. But remember it is all in fun. And sometimes sarcasm is the greatest way to get the best strings started. I look forward to the days and months ahead.

Kudos to all.

Dear Terri,

You have spelled the magic word. This is more like a home than a Forum surrounded by wonderful caring members. I have also been around experiencing different Forums. Here the gravity is beyond description. Please send your posts and as long as you stay outside nothing may look serious enough to you. It is very natural that no discussion is serious unless to be a part of that. No problem is a problem unless to face it. You will never enjoy a show unless to be in the show.
We are looking forward to enjoy reading your posts in a very near future.

Best regards and welcome home,

Hi Spicy Grandma and all,

I agree with everyone. This forum is excellent for the quality of the posts. I really like the newsletter format with excerpts from a few new posts as well - it often encourages me to come in and take a look around.

Great subject, and BTW, I love your signature! Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

I think its great to see so many newcomers enjoying it :-)

I know it can be just as informative & entertaining to read the posts, but I ask that you join in. If you think what you have to say about something doesnt matter, think again...because it could. Often you will see a familiarity with posters, if you check out the number of posts we have made you can see why :-) But don't let this stop you joining in :-) If there isn't new blood in a topic thread, then a lot of times it can die a fast death...when it could be a good subject.

The wealth of information available in these forums is staggering, yet the people are down to earth and fun. Even though we are exchanging valuable information, tips, and experiences, it's all done in a laid back manner. I always look forward to the next topic to read through or throw my 2 cents in!

Keep up the good stuff, everyone, and remember: It's not only okay, but EXPECTED for you to take a nap after you eat turkey! :)

This forum is incredibly valuable. Just as several have already written, I've lurked in other forums over the years, not really feeling comfortable enough to post. Or I've posted a question and stuck around long enough to have it answered, but didn't become a member of the community. I think the creators of this forum had a terrific idea about including photos. It's much easier to write a scathing post to an anonymous recipient if you are anonymous, too; and easier to feel a kinship if you can put a face to a name. Thanks for providing such a super environment!

1. My projects don't get done because I spend too much time reading posts. I've actually started taking my laptop to a coffee house so I can get some actual work done.

2. Everytime I come to WPW there are pages of messages to read (see problem #1)

3. Other forums I frequent are not getting read including the ones I am moderate.

Joining these forums has proved an invaluable experience for me.
I'll admit that I've been lucky in the four years I've had a website and invariably seen myself turn up within at least the first 50 positions with Google. But thanks to all the sound advice about how I could fine tune my pages and work on the idea of reciprocal links, I've now seen myself move from a PR4 to a PR5. I'm also appearing as #1 in five of "my" nine keywords.
I have to say I never expected this kind of luck when I signed up, but I'm sure I'm not the only member to benefit from all the information sharing and invaluable suggestions.
Count me in as 110% in favour of WebProWorld!

Hello everybody,
First of all, let me introduce my self in more details. My real name is Ahmed Shaffik, I'm 27 years old, I'm Egyptian with British roots, and I live in Egypt.
When I joined WebProWorld, I wasn't sure wether I will be welcomed here or not (Because I'm Egyptian and an Arab and some people cann't just differenciate between people... they judge me as a bad guy only because I'm an Arab), but I was really astonished when I found warm welcomes and when I found my first article in the WebProWorld news email.
Day after day, I realized that I have a new home over the internet, I also realized that I finaly can find people who are judging me for my character and not for my passport.
In brief, WebProWorld owners & members.. You Are Building Trusted Relations Between Nations.. away of discrimination and hatered, I feel here that the world is united.
With all my respect and love

I like everything about WebProWorld. The forums are great and the daily email always has some intriguing topic featured that you just have to click on to find out what everyone is saying about it. And, most importantly, the piece that really makes WebProWorld better than the rest is the people. The people here are just good people, they are here to learn and to share. There is not a lot of bashing that goes on, most everyone is very courteous and constructive with their posts. I'm very glad to be part of WebProWorld, I have learned a lot and I'm here to stay.

Its so terribly sad in the world that people would even contemplate that they wouldn't be welcome somewhere because of their race. I'm so glad that you found that didn't happen here :-)

All the people in the world have a voice, its how they use it that counts. I have found that people at WPW in general use their voices well (some a little more than others **wink**).

We have from time to time had topics that delve into world affairs, and personal opinions have sometimes become heated. But I have also found, that go to another forum category, and the same 2 people who disagreed on a personal level, were in agreeance on a technical level. When you have something in common, it's hard to disagree 'all' the time. :-)

You know, I used to enjoy this forum but some people really know how to push my buttons, and it is no secret that that is that upside-down angelfoodcake Matauri.
I used to get a chance to say nice things but she reads my mind and then, as if that isn't enough, she adds all this other good stuff about the forum and the participants.

And not only that, she is just the tip of the iceberg. There are even people around here who stand up for each other! they won't put up with any abusing of our friends, and promptly, yet diplomatically, set the record straight.

Now they've got me putting smiley's and "lol's", so people will know when I'm just ribbing them?! lol

Well, I can tell that anyone named "Spicy Grandma" might be able to handle it, and enjoy it here, but don't get me wrong, I'm glad to meet you to!
Just watch out for the ego's!

I hand out praises like I hand out $100 bills. Since I rarely have two nickels to rub together in my pocket, then you know how often I hand out praises.

So, I am going to get this over with quickly. I love you guys, this place is great. There I said it.

Seriously - I have been to quite a few forums over this last year. Most were okay, some had so many upturned nosed snobs that I wondered how they kept a forum going to begin with, some just didn't interest me, some were dead and lifeless and you had kick at it to see if it moved.

But then I stumbled upon this little gem of a place. To this date, I really do not remember how I got here. Maybe it was spam from Brittany (just kidding Britt). And now I am here.

What prompted me to post this message was something that Ahmed said:

WebProWorld owners & members.. You Are Building Trusted Relations Between Nations.. away of discrimination and hatered, I feel here that the world is united.

And that really summed up the feelings that I am having about this place too. Well said Ahmed.

We have people from all over here. Australia, Canada, India, Egypt, Columbia, Holland, United Kingdom, France, United States, and as soon as we all can figure out what planet MikMik is from then we can add that to the list too.

All nationalities are here...truely global when you look at it. And a wide range of types of people. We have dogs, devils, devil artists, angels, mods(don't confuse these with aliens below), alleged angels, men, women, women who are told they are men, men who are told they are women, men who are told they look like women & act like women, aliens(don't confuse these with mods above), the amazing guy who resembles every known actor known to man, and just about any other strange and wonderful creature that you could possibly find on Earth.

I have seen a lot of advise and suggestions being dispensed around here. A lot of help provided, and people walking away with a new outlook on how the Internet is run and benefiting from this help. And I would like to hand out another $100 bill and say to everyone here...job well done. Looking at Duncans testament proves the envaluable service that everyone is providing here, and you all should take pride in that.

I have come to make some new freindships here. Kind of getting attached to some also....except maybe Minstrel...until he gives me that beanie, I have nothing to say. Janeth...what a good sport she is. You can throw dung at her all day, but she is smart and good spirited about it all. She just picks it up, removes the plastic wrapper and flings it back at you. And greenpeace..umm greenleaf..ummm the bird guy..yeh him...my number one foil whom I love no end to argue with all day long (and I would like some of that cellphone traffic if you have any extra, big guy). Leisa, well she has been a little "horny" lately so beleive it or not, I am avoiding her. And MikMik...what can I say about you that hasn't been said already...when I remember what I said, then I will update this post.

So I would like to thank each and everyone of you for allowing me to become part of this family. As Ahmed said this a World Community and we all are very lucky to be part of it.

In closing, as all of us indeed are taking off for the Holidays please take care and follow Matauri's advice above....keep safe...be safe.

Happy Holidays and Success in the Coming Year

As a layman, I found this forum a guiding spirit to elevate my web site as an appealing one. My web site was once with shabby look; and I just changed it to a very attractive one - Thanks to WPW and its valuable guiding members. Ms Melissa French of Netcastles did a splendid job, even providing me with a free logo design to my site. I read every posting in these Forums that fairly give me ideas about websites & Internet world. And of course, after joining this WPW, I got many visitors through these forums, got very constructive criticism that made me to set things right. And I am elated, with very good and responsible postings and replies by many. Thanks to one and in these Forums and a double cheers!

I visit and join different forums on the web because well I like to talk (type) and learn about different topics ... some forums are far to technical for me as I am not a programmer or super guru webmaster but I still try to read and understand and have gained quite a bit of knowlegde just being a lookie loo and then there are those forums where I feel I have something to contribute but ultimately some super ego has to one up me ... I don't last to long in those because I'm not interested in putting others down to make myself feel better but this forum I must say is my absolute favorite because you have such a diverse population and it doesn't matter if your new to the web, not a programmer or maybe you are a programmer and a super guru nobody makes you feel bad or less than if you ask a question (at least not in my experience) and those that do have the higher end skills or have years of experience are willing to share ... I think that is what forum community should be all about don't you???

My hats off to WebProWorld for creating a forum that is a comfortable atmosphere where people can truly learn and grow!

Hello, Marketing Mama - Exactly! I am sticking to this forum, because "I am at home" feeling; after a lot of trying elsewhere, now settled here for once. Here I only view the different subject & topics, posted by highly experienced professionals and I try to learn a bit. I am not at all connected to the profession, excepting for the fact, I own a domain and a website! That's all.

You cited the reasons, exactly for the same I am still here, to hear and learn. The varieties of info given by the veterans, giving me an easy understanding. Otherwise I usually roam around the break room, joining the professionals, for a nice and understanding exchange. A mind relaxing place, I can safely state; I read all the postings, each in a unique, professionally presented manner. Each thread give you the value, oh, that's for free reading!

True, for me, I gained a lot, by joining this forum - by the way of getting my site reviewd by professionals and now upgraded in a presentable way, got my adsense queries answered, and learnt from the veterans, how to keep up with SEs and the Google glorified page gave me chance to develop my web site on the practical way..and what not!

My sincere and honsest thanks to the Team WPW, Veterans and to all the members. Though they now call me a veteran, for the 100 plus posts, I feel, I do not deserve, for the fact, that I am not qualified professional in internet industy nor I posses the knowledge to guide others.

Kudos, WPW!

Namasthe Everyone,

I just like to see my number of posts grow next to my screen name. ;o)

Seriously, I have been with the forums since the beginning and I agree with the previous posts in this thread. No one seems to have a big head here and those that do berate "newbies" usually end up getting flamed by everyone else. We all stick up for one another. I like that.

I like that I can review my previous posts and edit them; to correct misspellings or if more information is available.

I really like the site review forum. It's very hard to find people in my industry that are professional and give you a straight review. Friends and family are usually too nice and don't have enough knowledge about what makes web sites tick.

I also like the emails I get in digest form. I don't have time to peruse the forums for new topics so I like that the moderators/editors choose some topics to bring attention to them. Just like this one!

Keep up the great work everyone!

WebProWorld has good content management. That's a plus. It uses the typical image of American blondie to attract a certain segment of the market. That is also a plus. It encourages people to reply to messages written by users with photos (a.k.a. makes you feel you know them already). That is a minus. It allows HTTP links in your signature = bad.
Overall, WebProWorld is a good forum. Too bad it stands in the shadow of Overture/Google. To make money and promote SEO as their main goal.

LauraB

I was singing the praises of WebProWorld earlier today and was delighted to see this post moments later. I have spent time reading, learned alot, and hopefully shared something in the informative forums. Items, bits of knowledge and links I have later shared with collegues.

I have wasted time in the Break Room, laughed until I cried (Wenwilder you kill me girl howdy), cried because I hurt for someone I only know online, shared silly stuff, recognized myself in others embarrassing moments and online triumphs and failures.

Yes, I participate in other forums, but WebProWorld is home. I never feel like I am being chastised, we don't always agree - but, hey, that is the real world. We don't have to agree, great growth often comes from expanding your mind to include a point of view that you did not bring to the arena yourself. It is wonderful to know that you can raise a question without fear of being called stupid!

So, I join in wishing WebProWorld the happiest of birthdays, I tip my hat to the volunteer moderators who spend time and effort drawing out the best in all of us (and occaisionally cooling off the worst), and to Brittany and Garrett keep up the good work.

What I like best about WPW is that you guys welcomed me from the 1st post and never, ever made me feel as dumb as I thought I must sound :-). I have a small-but-growing home-based craft business and a "homegrown" website to go with it.

I built the site with a web design program that came on my PC just to see if I could do it. Now 1 year later, thanks to all the great info and folks here, we're beginning to get noticed in cyber space. We've even reached #1 on Google & Yahoo with one of our keywords!

I have had very few questions that weren't answered here and the info has been invaluable!
Thanks!

We were one of the early members. Our experience with WPW has been very positive.

WebProWorld to the rescue
When we first posted here, we knew as much about SEO as we did brain surgery or necular fission.

We just knew we had a problem that started overnight in August of 2002. Our rankings on Yahoo! (who we were also an advertiser with) went from #1's and #2's for our best key phrases to ranks like #277. We do mean literally overnight.

We could not get any answers as we thought it was a Yahoo! situation. We were desperate. Sales revenue was actually cut by 60% for our e-commerce business www.ringdesigner.com (which is our only business, not a hobby or second job). To say it hurt our business and our family is an understatement.

Our First WebProWorld Post
To make a very long story short, we saw this WebProWorld e-mail notification, from I think Brittany, inviting web folks to join . So we did, and posted our plight here at WebProWorld.

Within a few days we had numerous communications from SEO folks (both on the forum and off line), who looked at our site (at no charge) and gave us their learned opinion of our problem. Several of them said we had a 60 character phrase on our homepage of hidden text put there by a service who said they could help us with searches two years before. We had not used that service for two years and had no idea the hidden text was there or even what hidden text meant. (We code in FrontPage and we never saw the 2pt hidden text in the same color as our black background. Unfortunately Google had labeled our site as a "spammer" unbeknownst to us. We actually did not know what a "spammer" was for a web site. We thought it was just an e-mail term. And Google of course had taken over Yahoo!'s search.

WebProWorld to the rescue again
We actually hired one of the SEO's who frequents here often with valuable information and insight. Within two weeks the site was cleaned up and we began an over year long task to ask for forgiveness from Google and remove the penalty.

Bottom line, it would be easier to find the Iraqi WMD's than to communicate with Google. That is a whole other story of over a years worth of e-mails, phone calls and pleas to Google totally gone unanswered.

WebProWorld to the rescue again times two (no maybe times infinity)
Just last week, we posted regarding what we interpreted was start up problem with Yahoo!'s new program. Almost unbelievable to us, after going through a horrible experience trying to communicate with Google for over a year, we got assistance almost immediately from Yahoo! via the person now posting as YahooMike to direct us to the correct place for help. Making another long story short, Yahoo!/Overture/InfoSpider have helped us/communicated with us more in a couple of days than Google did in over a year to set us straight.

None of the help from Yahoo!/Overture/InfoSpider would have come to us without WebProWorld! If we return to the sales that we had when people could find us (our products and quality speak for themselves if we can get a shot) then it will ONLY be because of WebProWorld. It is that simple.

WebProWorld versus other forums
And we made the mistake of venturing onto another forum a few months ago with our Google hassle run by a SEO type. To say we got hammered, even by the forums creator and moderator, for asking questions (yes in hindsight maybe some stupid questions) was an understatement.

Here at WebProWorld there is just a feeling of learned SEO/marketing folks out to help, guide and recommend. It just seems to be a much more a professional atmosphere as compared to some other forums.

So Happy Birthday WebProWorld It has been a good year. but only because of the hard work by the folks who run the forum and the excellent support by you, the members. Personally, there is a very good chance, WebProWorld will be a lifesaver for our e-commerce business. The next year will tell. We will always be a believer if that happens.

With Warmest Regards

Greg Gates

PS: with March Madness about to happen, did anybody notice the cap Brittany' was wearing in her picture on WebProWorld the other day? Tried to get her to say what school it was, with no response. LOL.

i like the forums (forae?) and even contibute on occassion. But oh! th frustration of having to sit here watching the stupid adverts while I wait for the contirbutions to load. This must be one of the slowest sites I visit - and this from a group of web professionals -- shame on you all!

Can't believe it's been a whole year! I can remember your excitement at having 300 members. You deserve every accolade. My only problem is that I think "oh, I'll just drop in for a few minutes to see what's going on" and an hour later I'm still immersed in the on-line world in all it's vibrancy and energy. Happy Birthday for sure WebProWorld!

I've lots of favourable things to say, but most of the words have already been taken out of my mouth!
Let me therefore simply add that joining and participating in WPW has been one of the best moves I've made since I first created my own website some four years ago. Along the way, I've kept going through learning curves, but in the past half dozen months I've graduated!
I certainly don't mean I know it all, but, without question, I've by now gained an understanding that makes me no longer feel like a beginner. And it's all because there's so much invaluable information sharing from so many thoroughly knowledgable and experienced mentors.
Regularly checking in with WPW has become one of my good habits!
Congrats to Brittany et al -- and thanks a thousand to everyone for making all my visits so worthwhile.

I like Web Pro because it is a good source for exchange of ideas. No matter what the challenge, someone has either "press through" and can help or offers encouragement.

The moderators have been responsive when I had a concern and followed up with direct e-mail contact. I have referred friends to this site and intend to continue.

Didn't expect to see my post in the newsletter though that was kind of neat!!! I'm glad to see so many with as positive as an experience as mine has been. I know WebProWorld must be happy to see it too!

Wow, thanks, everyone! It's great to hear that you guys are enjoying the forums this much!

In regards to the forums loading slow, we've been having server problems lately. We just switched to a new server so things should be much faster now. Hope that helps!

Moved and merged :)

Can't believe it's been a whole year!

It hasn't - it's only been nine months! Feels like much longer, though, doesn't it?

I can't wait until WebProWorld's one year birthday... and the years to come...

Brittany's flashing speed:

"Moved and merged :) "

Wow, I am moved by this quick merger, :)

It is indeed a quickest Move & Merge!! Mmmm.., the posts I said. Thanks a trillion, again for the fast moves.

If an award is proposed for the Active member in the team, now doubt - and quite naturally - it goes to you! - Brittany!

If an award is instituted for the Best writers/posts, then it must be for the Tooooooooooo brilliant person in this forum.:)

If an award is given for the worst writer - difficult to pronounce by name and the posts Hey there, I stand tall among others; (yes, after seeing the silly postings with slippery answers, I still find am yet to learn!, learn a lot). LOL:)

An entire year has passed...Wow, where did it go??
There are a number of things I really appreciate.

In random order here they are:

No one makes you feel like a dummy for asking what would be considered a "simple" question by some.

When on the rare occassion someone gets out of line or crosses the line into mean-spiritedness there are several members that shut him done and get the topic back on track.

My questions have always been replied to thoughtfully. People actually take the time to read the posts in their entirety before commenting.

The sense of humor that some bring to the table along with their expertise is very much appreciated.

I enjoy being in a place where I can give back. We all have different backgrounds and experiences and can assist each other because of our diversity.

I have made friends here that value my opinion (and I, theirs) and that means the world to me.

Thanks to the WPW moderators, the members, the MVP's and everyone involved in making my time here memorable and enjoyable. I can learn more here than I ever did in a classroom environment.

Paul,

I already copied and pasted the link to WPW, with a small addition - "I am a proud member of" included in the script. Is it okay ?
