I've been targeting keywords "wager on football" and "sportsbook review" and "football sportsbook" on google, with fairly good success. What is up with Yahoo?? I'm not even in first 10 pages for a keyword that I'm #1 for on google??? Help please.

Although I have no proof, I've seen in the past where it SEEMS that if your site ranks in the top 10 in Google, Yahoo purposely pushes that site WAY down it's index. I thought I started to see that trend across multiple client sites, but then within the past 2 weeks, all the client sites seem to have stablized, with each getting similar rankings in MSN, Yahoo and Google.

Maybe Y's algo finally has the bugs worked out?

Hmm, interesting. For my keywords "yacht charter croatia", we are #8 on google, but #23 on both Yahoo and MSN. only google changes my SERP, we were on #3 for long time, even on #2. But my competition who are #1 and #2 on google, they are on same positions on yahoo and msn. only normal conclusion which comes to me is that you have to give up on updateing your site. you dont wanna hear other conclusions:)

Not true, I can give you 100's of examples. where a site ranks #1 in both Yahoo and google.

sudhani is right. Although we do better in G than in Y! we still rank #2 or #3 for many of our top keywords in Y! and in some cases #1 on both Y! and G.

This is another myth, but fortunately an easy one to disprove. The usual reasons for sites doing better in one engine than another are that the engines rank according to different criteria. Depending on the nature of your site, it can be quite tricky to optimise for good ranking in bith Y! and G... but not impossible.

Hi,

I've found that in Yahoo/MSN for certian keywords I'm ranked very high, normally on the first page, but in google I'm quite a few pages in and I don't know why, I've only started to slip down in google lately and I've done nothing I should not have, if anything I've been getting more backlinks.

Optimizing websites to rank well on all search engines requires a lots of good SEO skills and as well as effort.

It just can't be explained in a few words.

I can explain it - Y & G no longer want to give you good free listings, they would much sooner you spend £000,000's per year using the sponsored listings.

I have optimised and submitted over 100 sites and over the last few years havent you noticed that business are dissapearing fromthe standard listings and only the likes of Kelkoo, ebay and amazon are domiating the top positions, i recently saw kelkoo and number 1, 2, 3 positions for a given keyword, when I clicked on them they didnt even sell the item I had searched for. now your not trying to tell me that the 500k per month that ebay spends on PPC does not hold some weightwith the guys at Y & G.

I recently went to a Google convention in Manchester UK and I got the chance to speak to a Google optimiser, he couldnt explain why businesses where dissapearing from the results. e.g. if you search "web design" the vast majority of the links (not PPC) featured on the first two pages are not actually web design companies, they are individuals or Joe bloggs offering free advice.

I think over the next few years you will see all compaines dissapear from the standard listings, Google are not going to give someone a number one position because they knwo that this company willl then be less likely to opt for the PPC option.

its only my theory, but some of the placings in Y & G are very suspect and I would suggest that a lot of "back handers" and "you scratch my back" type activity goes on at Y & G.
