Hi. I'm just a fringe lurker here. I hope I'm not posting this to the wrong area, but there doesn't seem to be a section dealing specifically with FrontPage. Anyway, I need an expert in FP with a Good-Witch wand to solve the following problem that some seem to have across the internet without knowing how to fix:

Some time ago I switched hosts. Ever since that time the webbot navigation bot hasn't worked, leaving me with a lot of space near the top of the page instead of a menu, which worked fine with the previous host. (Nor do some of the page transitions work, but that's neither here nor there.) The first thing one of the techs did at my present host was load my site with ftp. I had an issue with that but she insisted it would be all right. I then reloaded all my pages using the FP publisher just to make sure extensions worked. I can't remember whether I loaded to www.mysite.com or http://www.mysite.com first (neither of which exist, incidentally, so far as I know), but as one didn't get me a menu I tried the other as well. (I couldn't get FP website statistics at either host and neither could explain why FP told me that I don't have a website when I tried to access stats. Neither could MS, who told me it was a server problem. But I'm guessing FP stats are fairly minimal so, so what.) Anyway, the owner of the server doesn't know why my menu navigation bar doesn't show up. He investigated while we were on the phone and said he couldn't find the problem. I later searched through the FP help pages at MS and am concluding from a certain article that it's a server problem with a solution, which is what tech at MS would undoubtedly tell me if I had so much money in my pockets for their tech support that the force of gravity pulled me through the earth's crust. But I'm not certain. I'm not a geek - and don't want to be! All other extensions work fine (forms, etc.), so I wonder if anyone knows the secret to the Mystery of the Missing Navigation Bar (MMNB) which topic arises in other forums and to which no one seems to have a clue. If it's FP corruption on my side can I unload FP, load it again and still have a website? One must be careful with FP! That could require no small amount of labor to iron out! Should I change hosts? Am I wrong to feel that it's daunting to seek a host that knows an iota about FP regardless that they all support FP extensions in advertising? I'm glad to appreciate a solution to this enigma via a link to your site from mine. If you visit, please don't look at the code. It's an adversity! Thanks in advance -

Larry

Hi Larry,

You have a lot of issues going on, but first: You should not use FTP to publish a FrontPage Web. Unless you know what you're doing. If you're not super careful, you'll mess it up.

Have you tried doing a complete republish? Hit File, publish, and check the option to publish all files, overwriting what's on the destination server. Let me know if that helps.

Your Frontpage extensions are corrupted. They need to be unisntalled & then re-installed. It sounds like your hosting company is now familiar at all with FrontPage. You might want to consider locating a company that understands the extensions.
