View Full Version : Dropped from Yahoo - why?

About a month ago my new site (which is actually not finished yet) popped up in Yahoo and we started getting about 20 visitors a day. I hadn't made an effort to have it indexed but Slurp did a drive-by anyway :). At the moment, the only thing up is the main page with a nifty English to Japanese name convertor. So not much content yet, but a nice little freebie treat for anyone who does visit.

Then about 4 days ago, it vanished from the Yahoo index and the visitors dried up. Although I am not too worried, since the site is not complete yet anyway, but I am (a) wondering why this has happened and (b) wondering if Slurp will come back / we will be put back in the index.

(I thought it could have happened because we were using a whole page frame to show the user their translated name, since this is produced by another server, and we didn't want to give the user the impression of having left our site. Now I have changed it so that the translated name is shown on a sub-domain (www2) in case that was what Yahoo objected to.)

The site is www.japanese-name-translation.com

Can you solve the mystery for me?

It could have been that Slurp saw the new site and added it to the index. Then upon a more thorough indexing, saw that it didn't have much content and dropped it.

Just a hypothesis. I don't think anyone truly knows how any of the search engines work or why they do the things they do - except with the possible exception of those working at SE companies.

I think I had a visit from Slurp again 2 days ago, so maybe I will be back soon. Interestingly, HK Yahoo is still serving up my site and I am getting some visitors from there.

Anyway, I am not too worried now as the site is still largely being built. My worry was that I had somehow been banned or blacklisted or something and I would never be able to get back....
