I was trying to locate the rules on this, but how strict are these guidelines? It seems more & more messages I have noticed lately are just self-advertising & nothing else.

That's a good question. There seems to be an increasing proportion of self-promotional posts and PMs (although I don't get very many of the latter...no one loves me :( ) and a decreasing proportion of ones where people actually help.

Self promotional posts are fine in certain forums such as the Introductions forum or the Freelance forums, but in the majority of forums, overly promotional posts are generally frowned upon. In such cases, Moderators have the right to remove affiliate links, etc and in extreme cases we will remove the post. Obviously, there will be some posts that combine good solid information together with a link back to the poster's site for further info, etc.

If there are glaring examples that you notice as you browse the forums, it would be most helpful if you could notify the relevant Mod by sending them a quick PM.

Paul

PS. I've moved this post into Suggestions and Comments

Thanks Paul! And Thanks Adam - glad I was not the only one. And I very rarely frequent those other forums Paul. but I'll send you a few examples.

It would be nice if we had a report link to click on, but since we don't, it would be helpful if you could pm the mod that looks after that particular forum.

It's difficult for us to catch them all
