I was recently asked to review a new mail service for our company. The mail service, www.bigstring.com, allows you to send emails and at your discretion delete or edit them even after they have been received and read by the recipient. It looks like it does this by storing the email you send on their server and sending an HTML version that retrieves the content from their server to the recipient that the recipient would view as though it were a standard email.

At first I thought it was a great idea then I realized there were a few major problems. The main problem is there is no more accountability. If important decisions are made in reliance to inaccurate information received in an email that negatively effects the company the person that made the error originally could just go back, fix his mistake and blame it on a mistake by the recipient of the email.

I have since advised against using the service and I am looking for a way to detect and bounce back any email received through this type of service.

What are your thoughts about these types of services?
