Has anyone else seen huge increases in general liability insurance that seem disproportional to the actual risk in our industry?
After 8 years in business and no claims against we were told our insurance was going up 1200%. We were told that the reason is as a Canadian company and because we do work with websites and have some exposure in the USA market there is more increased risk than previously. We are not web designers, we market websites but because we have anything to do with changes on a website they feel the risk is higher.
General Liability Insurance is a requirement of our lease or else I would just go without. I thought this insurance company is nuts we need to change. Other insurance companies are also saying they can't insure companies that work on websites. I was told this is true for anyone looking for this insurance.
If we are having this much problem as an SEO firm to find insurance at a reasonable rate then web designers must be having more problems. What are other web design and SEO companies doing for "General Liability Insurance"?
There are many companies working on websites or with websites, it doesn’t seem reasonable that all of them are at that much risk or could operate without insurance. The economy is moving toward the Internet, who are these insurance companies planning to insure when most companies are exposed to the Internet?
