Well it all depends. Are you building this for a client or to possibly sell?

You have many options - inventory, customer sign in, variables (colors, sizes) added to the products, affiliate system, gift certificates, coupons, linked to electronic payment gateway(s), linked into the USPS to provide real-time shipping, top selling items - these are just a few things. Have you looked at other shopping carts online to see what they offer & what you might want to offer?
