Hi all

Sitting on the edge trying to understand this game and have a few questions. Sorry if I sound like I've just come in from the cold, but I have.

Anyway what does; Link Popularity and the figures associated with them mean . The Alexa ranking and Alexa Links.

thanks
Craig

Hi Craig,

Don't worry, we all started at the beginning just like you.

A domain is just a name. If it is an expired domain that has existing traffic it's worth more.

Alexa rank isn't totally reliable but can be an indicator of existing traffic, links mean existing traffic, if it's already listed in search engines that's potential traffic. Google PR is many times sought after in expired domains but Google typically, although not always, wipes out PR after a domain expires.

Hope that helps to clarify

Thanks fot the info it does sort of make sense. One thing, the link poularity, is that other site wanting to have a link to the side. Is it better to have a higher link popularity number than a lower number?

Thanks again

Link pop is actual links coming into the site. The more links the better chance of incoming traffic.

hey Wild,

When determing link popularity everyone has their own prefered way of checking traffic.

As Linda noted Alexa isn't a guranteed source because its information is gathered ONLY from people who have installed the Alexa toolbar.

When I check for popularity I usually do 3 things.

1). Check Alexa

2). do a search in google for "domain.com", to see how many websites either mention domain.com or have a link pointing to it.

** note in the above example keep the quotes. I do not trust the results presented by link:domain.com so I don't use it.

3). I check to see if the domain name has a PAID listing in the yahoo directory. (http://dir.yahoo.com).

Catalyst:
If I can find the article, I found an article by a large statistical firm, which actually lists the search engines that get the most users and which ones generate the most sales. (I will hold you in anticipication since according to this study google doesn't generate the most SALES!)
