I see some sites where every link to another page within the site is an absolute one i.e. on www.madeupname.com there is a link to the sitemap which is http://www.madeupname.com/sitemap.htm rather than just sitemap.htm or /sitemap.htm

What are the disadvantages or advantages of this. Surely if you have a keyword in your domain name and then lots of absolute internal links you might get penalised for over use of the keyword??

Comments much appreciated

Doh, I spend ages looking, decide to post a question then find the answer in another post..<sigh>

http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?t=22649 has 2 comments, 1 says absolute ok and the other says relative better.

Anyone else want to give their opinion to tip the scales??

Thanks

I think both will count as a backlink.

I see the advantage to using relative links for flexability and less code. It's what I do, for what it's worth.

I don't think the keywords in the domain will help enough to make me start using absolute url's. Do these people who use absolutes for links also use them for images? What a pain.
