Google may be ahead when it comes to searches but Yahoo has them when it comes to unique Visitors.
Yahoo Got 113,190,000 Unique Visitors in April
and
Google got 65,996,000 Unique Visitors in April

Email is part of it. Plus Shopping and Games ... not to mention I think a lot of them have their Home Page set to My!Yahoo.
Google's main product will always be search. But let's face it, now that MicroSoft is coming into the arena ... Google will be taking the fight to their turf, the Desktop. They have about 2 years to pull it off before LongHorn rolls out.
In the meantime, they have a very popular user base in Blogger.com and using Blogger to launch Gmail with (slowly and surely) is a smart move.
Here is a good article to whet your appetite of what could be in store next: E-mail as a platform - Why Gmail Will Win (http://www.webstractions.com/news/2004/06/e-mail-as-platform-why-gmail-will-win.html)

As pointed out, don't confuse visits with searches. They are 2 different beasts. I would say Google consistently has far more searches per month than Yahoo.
Where did the figures come from?

Agreed. Yahoo encompasses a wide range of properties. Mail, Shopping, Search, Directory, Games, My!Yahoo, and many more.
Since the figures shown appears to be limited to just the base domain though, I am assuming that it does not take two other properties of Google into account either -- Blogger and Orkut. If that is the case then Google is severely under-reported (on a whole). They probably do take into account Gmail however, for it is off of the root of the Google domain.
It would have been nice to know where those figures came from. Janeth, can you enlighten us?

Yahoo is the bigger brand name right now -
from there years of free services and TV commercials Yahoooooooooo!
Everyone knows about yahoo....
But things are sure to change... As Google comes to the stock market and become more brandable, the adverage person will discover Google.
We all know that GOOGLE is king of search - but we play a small role in the amount of traffic being generated on the net today... The likes of AOL and YAHOO are still very fresh in the mind of the consumer... But the consumer is getting smarter everyday....
I'm not sure if Yahoo is a bigger brand name than Google. Google seems to be a commonly used verb these days. "Maybe you should Google it." As for the # of search terms, it could also be that a Google visitor will be more interested in search and will use its search functions 10 times per month as opposed to a Yahoo visitor who is interested in search but not as much.
